Then he motioned for Dante to head out.

They slipped out of the interrogation room and into the dark hallway. Sonny locked the door and turned to face Dante.

“Gage is on his way back from the police station. Let’s head back to the clubhouse.”

They walked up the wooden stairs until they reached the ground level.

“How much longer are you keeping those two?”

“Longer than usual. I have a feeling that bitch has other secrets to share.”

“What about Cameron?”

“He’s a small player. Fuck, he’s more whiny than she is.” Sonny shook his head. “I think he played his part but he’s not in the Carnage inner circle. Naria, on the other hand, is around those boys all the time. Trust me, them bitches, they hear and see everything. Even when the guys think no one’s watching.”

Dante nodded in agreement. It was true. Most of the women who worked the pole in these parts were involved with with bikers on the regular. They were witnesses to a lot of stuff that went down in the clubs and at the parties.

“So, you and Sage got down and dirty, huh?” Sonny mumbled, reaching for his pocket. He pulled out a cigarette and he shoved it between his lips.

“Jesus Christ, can everyone tell?”

“You got a hickey on your neck. So, yeah.”

Dante shrugged, ignoring the rising heat in his body. He’d never admit it out loud, but he kinda liked the idea that Sage had marked him.

His mind wandered back to how he had marked her. She looked damn good covered in his cum.

“We fucked, that’s all. We’re both stressed and needed release.”

“And?” Sonny egged him.

“And what? It was good. Better than. She’s… anyway it’s done. You know me, I don’t go back for repeats. Which is fine because as soon as we’re done with this mess, she’s outta here. Women like to fuck the bad boy but that’s it. And I just like to fuck. There’s nothing else going on.”

“Maybe. Or maybe she likes Longford. And her farm. And a reformed player.”

“Fuck off,” Dante grumbled. “I’m not reformed. As soon as this shit with Carnage is over, I’m gonna go find a couple of randos and everything will be just as it was.”

He didn’t know if he was trying to convince Sonny or himself that he was unaffected by Sage. Probably both.

His heart told him otherwise. Foolish bastard.

“Okay,” Sonny replied and lit up his cigarette.

“Besides, she only moved here to be closer to the case. Once that’s done, she’s done.”

“True.”

Dante didn’t know what else to say.

The thought of Sage leaving gave him that empty feeling that he fought so hard against. Why this woman, of all people, should make him feel, make him want more than just a fuck, was beyond his comprehension.

It defied logic, reason, sanity.

And yet, there it was. There she was. And he couldn’t see anything else but Sage.

As if he’d spoken his thoughts out loud, he looked up and yes, there she was.

Sage was standing on the porch, watching them approach, a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. The blanket he’d placed over her.
