The rain was now pouring down. The timing couldn’t be better. It would wash away any evidence, including the blood, the footprints, and anything else.

The only thing that would remain on site were the bullets. But once the crew permanently disposed of their (unlicensed) guns, good luck finding a match.

The cops would have nothing.

Wyatt opened the driver’s side and slid in. “Jackson’s riding with Sonny and Avery. Raven and Padraig are bleeding out. We’ll see if they make it back to the bunker alive.”

“Hopefully I will,” Dante whispered and added pressure to his wound.

“Jesus, D!” Wyatt yelled as he glanced at him, then shifted into drive and peeled off down the road like a race car driver. “I didn’t know you got hurt that bad.”

“Jesse better be ready to play doctor, ‘cause I got a bullet lodged in my leg.”

Dante said nothing else after that, saving his energy.

He closed his eyes.

The sound of the windshield wipers was hypnotic, back and forth, back and forth. He was tired, so tired. And the pain was getting worse. Spreading, radiating all over.

Was this it? Had his luck finally run out?

No, it couldn’t. There was still so much he wanted to do. So many roads he’d yet to travel.

Then he thought about Sage and coming home to her. And traveling those roads with her. Just the two of them on his bike, wild and free.

And he realized, too late, that he really wanted that life. She was just like him. Both of them were lost, alone. But together, they had something. Something real. He knew it the second he’d laid eyes on her, but he’d fought it, denied it, pushed it away.

Until now. Until it was too late.

“Sage,” Dante whispered, the pain so bad now he could hardly breathe. Oh shit. “Wyatt, tell her…tell—”

His vision went black.

SAGE

Sage paced in the clubhouse kitchen while Rochelle cooked dinner.

“Why don’t you save your energy and have a seat? I’ll get you something to eat,” Rochelle commented.

Sage shook her head. “I’m too nervous to sit. Or eat. How can you be so calm knowing that Nate might not… might not… you know?”

Rochelle smiled and came over to stand in front of Sage. “This is the life they choose. And the one I chose. There’s no point worrying over what ifs. We just live in the moment. And Dante is the same way. You need to trust your man.”

“My man? Who said anything about that?”

Rochelle rolled her eyes and headed back to the stove. “Please. Anyone with a set of eyes can see the fiery sparks between you. Of course, I never realized that the charming playboy would have his day but then I don’t think any of us were expecting you.”

“You and me both,” Sage sighed and took a seat on one of the kitchen stools.

“You’re good for him. You’re smart, tenacious, and you don’t give up. He’s had too many people in his life give up on him. His family back home in the U.S. especially.”

“He doesn’t talk about them. A bit about his time in the military, but that’s it.”

“Well, he’s a biker, you need to pry it out of him,” Rochelle teased, then her expression turned serious. “Outside of his cocky exterior, Dante is a great person. Loyal to the bone. A true ride or die. For the right woman.”

Sage thought about that for a moment and the thought of being with Dante, not as a rando, but as something more, made her stomach all fluttery.
