Sage finally bent over him, so close he could feel her hot breath on his dry lips. “I know how to describe it. I’m falling in love with you.”

And then she kissed him. Didn’t leave any room for doubt or second guesses.

Fuck, she was falling for him and why the hell did that feel like the best thing ever?

Injury or not, any declaration like that would normally send him running for the hills.

But not with her.

Fucking shit, he felt the same way. But the words, they were stuck in his throat.

Dante didn’t like to admit to his fears, but this was one of them. Because anyone he’d ever loved, save for his crew, had turned their back on him.

“And don’t worry, you don’t need to say anything. I can read you like a book. You’re having a hard time wrapping your mind around the fact that you want me around all the time and not just for sex. Don’t worry, honey, take all the time you need. I’m not going anywhere.”

Sage leaned back with a satisfied smirk on her face, full of confidence.

This side of Sage was as hot as everything else about her. She was a standout woman, one he still wasn’t sure he was worthy of.

“I had a shit upbringing,” he blurted out. “My parents were too busy fighting and getting high to take care of a kid. I learned early on that I could never, ever, count on anyone but myself.”

“But you count on your club brothers?” Sage replied.

“That’s different. We’re friends, and we share the same way of thinking.”

“And what about me?”

“You’re different too. The most amazing woman I’ve ever met,” he admitted.

“That means a lot, especially given your reputation around town.”

Dante rolled his eyes. “You’re gonna joke now? I just fucking poured my guts out.”

“I know, honey, and I love you for it.”

Sage calling him ‘honey’ and saying I love you had his heart kickstarting again.

“Say it again,” Dante demanded.

“That means a lot—”

“Not that, the other thing—”

Sage kissed him again, cutting off his words.

He had no argument against that. The kiss was long and languid, and she teased his tongue with playful strokes. Dante growled in response, frustrated that he couldn’t do anything else given his goddamn injury.

She teased him with one more kiss and pulled back. “I love you.”

Dante full-on shivered. “Is this really happening or is it the drugs?”

Sage laughed and shook her head. “It’s really happening.”

“Fuck.”

Knock, knock.

Sonny popped into the room. “Sage, your brother just texted. He wants to meet you.”
