Sage stood up. “Okay. What about your new guests in the bunker? Are they able to talk?”

“They’re in bad shape, but yeah.”

“Then I’ll meet up with Blane as quick as I can. I’ll bring him back here.”

“That works for me. Get a comm device from Xander and I’ll meet you out front in twenty.” Sonny paused before he left the room. “You okay, D? You look stoned. Too much drugs?”

“No,” Sage answered before he could. “Probably not enough. Oh, and I told him I loved him, so he’s in shock. Rest up, honey, I’ll be back in a few hours.”

Sage got up and sauntered out of the room. Dante’s eyes lasered in on her ass until she stepped from view.

“You, me, and Nate.” Sonny shook his head. “What the fuck is going on with our club, man? These women are coming in here and taking over.”

“Yeah,” Dante replied with a punch-drunk smile on his face. Despite the pain in his leg, he was feeling on top of the fucking world. “And I think I like it.”

SAGE

Sage sat in one of the booths at the Long Street Diner and waited for her brother’s arrival.

The place was quiet, save for two of the wait staff and a few customers having their breakfast.

The whole town was still cleaning up after the fire but thankfully, the diner had been spared.

“Can I get you any more coffee?” Sam asked as he stood beside her with a pot in hand.

“No thanks, Sam. I’m fine.”

“You all right? You seem nervous.”

“I’m meeting someone here shortly. I’m just overtired. Busy lately.”

Sam nodded and headed for the rear of the restaurant.

Sage looked out the window and spotted a black sedan with tinted windows pulling in to park. She didn’t recognize the car as someone local. Then Blane stepped out and Sage fought to calm her oversensitive nerves.

She tapped on her ear pod. “He’s here.”

Dressed in his usual grey suit, Blane looked tired and disheveled, his dark brown hair mussed.

He looked up at the diner and around Main Street and shook his head, then proceeded to head inside.

Sage stood up and slapped a smile on her face. “Blane.”

“Sage. Leave it to you to find the most rundown place in all of Alberta to live in,” Blane replied with contempt as he sat down across from her.

Valery, one of the waitresses, stopped by the table. “Morning, sir. Would you like coffee or something else?”

“Iced tea. Lots of sugar,” Blane snapped and handed over the plastic menu. “And I won’t be needing this.”

Val nodded and glanced at Sage.

“Thank you, Val,” Sage replied politely since her brother was acting like an ass.

Val walked away and Blane leaned forward, a predatory gleam in his dark brown eyes. Blane looked tired but wired, with bloodshot eyes and dark purple bags underneath them. He tapped on the table with his fingers, hard and fast, like a woodpecker on a rotten tree.

“So, where do we sign the paperwork?”
