Sonny could ‘interrogate’ Blane, Padraig, Cameron, Naria, and Raven as much as he wanted, for however long he wanted. And when he was done with them?

She didn’t care. Sage had all the answers she needed.

An eye for an eye. Or in this case, five.

That wasn’t nearly enough justice in Sage’s eyes. Not for what had happened to her sister.

But it would have to do.

DANTE

Three days later…

“What do you mean, she’s gone?!” Dante yelled.

“Relax, man, she had to go back to her place,” Jesse replied as he checked Dante’s wound. “She’s been relying on her farm hands while we were dealing with the Carnage mess. In case you forgot, she’s got a business to run.”

Dante’s leg was healing up nicely, but he still couldn’t move around much, and he had to mind the stitches. Plus, he’d been drugged up for days and was only now thinking with a clear head.

Sage had left without saying goodbye. No text, nothing. And she’d been silent for three days.

Three whole fucking days. Dante was going out of his freaking mind.

Sonny told him all about what had happened with Sage’s brother. Dante couldn’t imagine her devastation. He’d texted her and called but she wouldn’t respond.

With Padraig and Raven gone, and most of their members dead, the rest of the Midnight Carnage here in Alberta were lying low. Hopefully, heading back to B.C. soon.

Good riddance.

The fire was still under official investigation. Still, it would probably be a long-ass time before they saw their insurance money, if any. Thank fuck for their underground businesses. They had money coming in to rebuild, bigger and better.

“I’m going over there. Get me some crutches. She can’t just kiss me like that and then kiss me off.”

Dante needed to see her.

To tell her that no, everything was not okay, maybe it never would be, but that at least they’d have each other. Their own bit of happiness they’d create together.

Xander walked into the room with a smirk on his face. “You’re gonna have a cool scar, D. The bitches will love it.”

“Fuck off.” Dante gave his friend the middle finger.

“You need to get laid, then you’ll feel all right. Man, if I was out of commission for days, I’d die.”

“Not everyone needs to fuck every single day,” Jesse quipped. “And don’t poke the bear. He just realized Sage is gone.”

Xander crouched down beside Jesse until their shoulders touched. The two of them looked at each but didn’t speak. They didn’t need to. Their matching glares said it all.

“Yo, Jesse! I said crutches,” Dante repeated.

Finally, Jesse snapped out of his staredown with Xander and stood up.

“Fine but take it easy. Don’t ruin my fucking stitches, ya hear?”

“No problem. It’ll probably take me an hour just to cross the road. My thigh is still aching like a motherfucker.”

“More painkillers?” Jesse offered.
