Angel’s gaze roams the limo’s interior, and her innocent, wide-eyed expression makes me wonder if she’s far younger than her sad expression had me believe.

“Have you ever been in a limo before?” I ask, studying her closely.

The beautiful dancer turns her head sharply to look at me, her cheeks warming to a soft rose color. “No.”

“Have you ever slept with a stranger before?”

Her blush intensifies, making her appear even younger and more naive, and a doubt settles into my stomach about whether I should have made the offer to her in the first place. While she works in a strip club, she’s unlike the other women I’ve slept with until now. I’m quickly coming to realize how far off I was in my estimation of her.

“No,” she whispers shyly.

Before I can press her further, the limo pulls up outside Temptation. Opening the door, I slip outside and offer Angel my hand. Hers is petite against my palm, and I can feel the slight tremor in her fingers that reveals her anxiety. She might seem calm on the surface, but she’s nervous.

Still, she lets me guide her through the front doors, my hand on the small of her back. She stands silently as I speak with the young, leather-clad receptionist who books our room and hands me a key.

“Have you ever been to a sex club before?” I ask, watching her from the corner of my eye as I guide her toward the thrumming music of the bar area.

This time, Angel only shakes her head. Several men eye her appreciatively as we enter the room, their gazes combing down her long legs. But as soon as they glance in my direction, their attention shifts as they purposefully avoid eye contact with me. They know better than to touch what’s mine.

At the bar, I order two vodka sodas and hand one to Angel as soon as they’re delivered.

“Thanks,” she murmurs and takes a large swig.

“Nervous?” I press, a hint of amusement curling my lips because it’s growing more apparent by the second.

Angel releases a breathy laugh, her cheeks coloring once again. “Is it that obvious?”

I give a one-shoulder shrug and force a smile that feels somewhat stiff after so many months without smiling at all.

Angel bites her full lip, her embarrassment intensifying. “Honestly, I’ve never done anything like this.” Her eyes dart around the room to encompass all the scantily clad clubgoers, the secluded communal alcoves where people are in various states of undress and busy getting it on. “I’m pretty... inexperienced, I guess.”

“How old are you?” I ask, curious whether she might actually give me a straight answer now that we’re not at Lady Venus anymore.

“Twenty-three.”

She doesn’t miss a beat, leaving me confident that it’s the truth, and I’m struck by the realization that she’s young enough to be my daughter. A flicker of guilt tightens my stomach. I shouldn’t have made the offer. It doesn’t matter that she’s the first woman who’s seemed to somehow comprehend the agony of my existence. We’re worlds apart in our experience.

“Perhaps this was a mistake,” I state, studying Angel’s face. “I shouldn’t have brought you here. I shouldn’t have asked you to spend the night with me.”

Her face falls, her anxiety spiking as Angel reaches out to grasp my forearm, and the unexpected contact sends electrical jolts of attraction up my arm and through my core.

“You can’t back out now! I mean...” She worries her lips as if concerned that she did something wrong. “I went into this with eyes wide open, and twenty-three is certainly old enough that I’m capable of making my own decisions. If you’re serious about the money, then I want to go through with this.”

My gut clenches as I realize how terribly I’ve misjudged this girl. She must be desperate for cash to go so far out of her comfort zone. And while I’m ruthless when it comes to business and destroying my enemies—like Aleksandr Volkov, who had my fiancée murdered—I don’t like the thought of taking advantage of this young woman.

“I wouldn’t make the offer if I weren’t serious about the money,” I state, setting aside my drink.

“Good. Then it’s a deal, so let’s seal it with a kiss.” Angel follows my lead, setting her drink aside, and before I can muster the self-restraint to stop her, she grasps the collar of my dress shirt and pulls my lips down to hers.

Electric excitement crackles between our lips, igniting my attraction for her with a white-hot intensity. I could feel it at Lady Venus as well. Every subtle brush of her flesh against my own sent my instincts into overdrive, wiping away my better judgment as she turned me on.

A low snarl rumbles up from my chest as my hands find the curve of her hips, and without thinking, I pull her firmly against my body, relishing in the feel of her athletic yet yielding frame.

Angel gasps, her lips parting as her arms snake around my neck, and I take advantage of her surprise, delving my tongue into her mouth to taste her deeply. She tastes fresh and citrusy, like the drink she just set down, and the cool softness of her lips mold to mine in perfect submission.

I know I shouldn’t want her like I do, not when she’s so clearly in a compromised position, but I can’t help myself. When she releases the softest of sighs, I wrap one arm around her waist and let my free hand travel up her side, her shoulder, her neck, until my fingers tangle in her luscious honey-blonde locks.

I can’t stop kissing her until my lungs are screaming for air, and even then, I only break away to gaze down at her soft, feminine features. Her hazel eyes—almost green and gold with a dark-brown rim containing the burst of color—stare up at me with a combination of determination and trust.
