Mila gasped, and Seraph made a noise too.

Liam laughed and must have nodded his head because all three girls started yelling and giggling uncontrollably.

“I knew it! I had a feeling you guys were.” Maddy said, but she sounded happy. That was good.

“That’s why you were distracted!” Mila said, connecting the dots.

My eyes watered as I listened and processed.

“We love her too, Dad. I thought she knew that.” That was Seraph.

“Of course she knows, but I wanted to talk to you guys alone to make sure it was alright with you.”

Maddy asked. “So you guys might kiss in front of us?”

Liam laughed. “We probably will at some point.”

“Can we start calling her mommy?” Mila asked and everyone seemed to go quiet.

Even my heart seemed to go quiet, waiting to ensure Liam said the right thing, because I did love these girls, but I knew they weren’t ready for that… Heck, I wasn’t ready for that.

“I think we should wait a little on that…that’s a very big title,” Liam said cautiously.

Mila’s little voice took on a confused tone. “But she is like our mommy. She picks us up from school, takes us shopping, she put a Band-Aid on my scraped knee. She helps with homework. She took care of us while you were gone.”

“Yeah,” Seraph added.

Maddy, who had been really quiet, added, “I already call her mom in my head.”

Still, my heart seemed to thrash around at the idea of them one day saying it to me.

“Well you guys better get ready for your big day. I heard there’s a big summer celebration in the town square and Haley wants to take you guys.”

That was enough of a reminder to get me moving. It had nothing to do with the fact that tears trailed down my face.

“There’s music!”Maddy gushed, taking my hand.

I held Mila’s hand on my other side and Seraph held hers.

“And a bounce house!”

There were so many people, I wasn’t even sure where to look. There was a small stage with a few people playing guitar and singing. Four massive bounce houses in yellow, red, and blue were set up on the grass, and there were tables scattered around the grass with red and white checkered tablecloths wrapped around each one.
