Nora finally spun away, that smile in place, and then everyone else slowly did the same.

Colson begrudgingly walked away with his bride, but not without sending one last glare our way.

What in the hell was that?

And why did it feel like we’d just had all of our secrets exposed?

After the receptionended and a few lanterns lit the walkway back to the house, Liam pulled Mila up into his arms, and I grabbed Seraph and Maddy, leading them into the house. We went up the stairs to my old room. It was sparse now, with three twin beds moved inside. Colson had arranged it so that the girls could have this room to themselves. Right next door was the master, which used to belong to my parents, but now that they’d left, and this house belonged to Colson, it was empty. I had assumed Colson would take it, especially for his wedding night, but he said he wanted his old room.

“Do we have to go back home tomorrow?” Maddy asked, yawning as she pulled her pajamas into her arms and headed for the closet.

“We have one more day before we have to go back,” Liam said, helping Mila sort out her pajamas. I handed Seraph hers and then moved to help Mila change, carefully taking the dresses and hanging them in the closet.

Seraph pulled her covers back and let out a loud yawn. “What will we do?”

Liam handed me a backpack, and I settled it in the closet.

“Should we try surfing?” I asked, smiling at the girls as they perked up excitedly.

“You know how?”

“I do.”

Liam smirked then dipped to kiss the girls’ heads.

“Get some sleep. We’ll figure it out tomorrow.”

I shut off the light, and the room glowed as Seraph’s star machine threw a million stars in varying shades of blue across the ceiling.

Mila sat up. “Wait!”

Liam and I turned toward her, still near the door.

“Where will you be in case I have a bad dream?”

I was about to open my mouth, then realized I had to stop rushing to answer them. Liam was back now, and I wasn’t their mother.

I waited for Liam to respond.

“Right next door.”

“No, Daddy. Haley. She knows how to get me back to sleep when I’m scared.”

Silver eyes found mine as a blush crept up my neck.

“I’ll be right down the hall.”

Mila tilted her head. “Why don’t you just share a room with Daddy? You sleep in his room at home.”

Liam coughed, lowering his head.

“I slept in there while your daddy was gone, honey.”

She didn’t seem to understand that.

“But don’t you love Daddy?”
