My heart was a runaway train, speeding, with sparks shooting from the tracks in a clear warning that it was about to derail. I wanted to hide, turn around and leave, because the risk was too much. He could devastate me—no,theycould––if he let me go. I’d lose them all. So far, I’d been safely dancing along the fringes of their lives. But this…this would put me in the center. It was so much, and yet I felt like if I didn’t say yes it would be the greatest regret of my life.

I guess it really would be better to have loved them than to have never had them. And I knew in that moment that while neither of us would say it, he loved me. That confession meant he did, and I understood with a fathomless truth that I loved him, too. As broken and misshaped as love always looked in my life, the love I had to give wanted him.

“I’m sure.”

Liam’s smile was slow, sensual and…completely mine.

He lowered his mouth, tracing my lips and cradling my jaw. I opened for him, allowing him all the access he wanted. My hands went up around his neck as he deepened the kiss and slowly moved his hands down my body. We were in front of his house, his neighbors could all see, but I didn’t care. This was our moment, and no one could take it from us.

He pulled away with a smile and was about to tow me inside when I tugged on his wrist, needing to say one last thing.

“One thing, just one.” I held up one finger. “The girls deserve to adjust to this news properly. I don’t want to do anything that’s going to mess with them.”

I loved how soft his eyes turned when he thought of his girls. He brought my hand up to kiss it, then nodded.

“Fine. No PDA in front of them, and at night we’ll make them think you’re staying in the guest room, but only because I just got back, and they’ve only had you for weeks. I don’t want anything to throw them off.”

That could work, at least until we worked up to that conversation where I explained that I loved them all and wanted to be a part of their family.

We went inside and found the girls all sitting in the living room, snuggled under blankets while watching a movie.

Mila slowly walkedover to me, carrying her blanket. I bent down and scooped her up into my arms and continued to the couch, where I slumped down with her in my lap.

“We’re watchingTangled,” Maddy said.

I frowned down at the five-year-old in my arms. “Again?”

Seraph laughed and snuggled closer to me. “We told her.”

“Mila, he isn’t even the best-looking prince.”

She was madly in love with Flynn Ryder and watchedTangledendlessly.

“Daddy needs a special blanket like we have,” Mila observed, tilting her head back to see her father.

I eyed my blanket that was folded on the back of the couch. I’d bought these for us when we went to visit Davis Brenton’s new store.

Mila’s expression narrowed, seemingly still stuck on the blanket draped behind me.

“Haley, you can share your special blanket with him, it’s bigger than ours.”

Liam looked over at me, then back at Mila. The other two were watching the movie, ignoring us.

“Sure. Liam, do you want to share my special blanket?”

Liam was holding back a smirk; I could tell by the way his eyes sparkled.

Obviously, this was awkward because it was his home and his kids, but he’d been gone and the kids and I had built little traditions to cope with his absence. Our comfy blankets were one of them.

“I’d love to,” he finally replied, moving toward the couch. I tossed the quilt at the end of the couch and scooted closer to Liam until I was near enough to share half the blanket with him. It put us shoulder to shoulder.

Once I relaxed into the cushions, Liam’s hand found mine under the fabric, and our fingers intertwined while we watched the movie. Liam traced the inside of my palm as Rapunzel went on adventure after adventure with Flynn Rider. I laughed and swooned at the lantern part, and then Liam flipped my hand over and began drawing circles into the skin, over my knuckles. I tried to ignore it when he drew a circle around my ring finger.

My eyes stayed trained on the movie, and not how quick my pulse had begun to thrum under my skin.

My hand was in his lap, directly over his dick, so every so often when my hand would graze him, he’d jolt or thicken. Regaining the use of my hand, I brushed over the outline of his semi deliberately, loving how heavy it was getting under my touch. I was blissfully watching the colors on the screen, zoning out and thinking about where I was touching when suddenly Liam stretched, pushing his hips up and his swollen cock into my palm.

“Girls, Haley is going to help me set up the guest room, since she’ll be sleeping in there now. So, you guys finish, and we’ll be right back.”
