“What?”

“I’ve asked Giovani to tell the rest of the family. It looks like he talked to Grazia.”

“Maybe she’s just calling to check on us.”

“Yeah, sure.” He answered and put the call on speaker. “Hello, Grazia.”

She lost no time. “Do you know who your real father is? Do we know him? I just can’t believe Mom had an affair. She always seemed so devoted to Father.”

Garon rolled his eyes.

“Yes, I know who he is. No, you don’t know him and you won’t because he’s dead. As for Mom, she wasn’t devoted she was imprisoned by Fabiano.”

“Why the hell didn’t you tell me? I’m your sister! I love you most in the world and you kept this from me?”

“Because I didn’t want this to come between us, Grazia.”

“It’s not! You are such an idiot for believing anyone would take Father’s side instead of you. I’m so mad at you, Garon.”

“But you’ll forgive me.” He said with pride. “Because you’re my sister.” He finally understood that his family loved him and they didn’t stick around just because they were obligated. I saw the moment that truth settled in his heart and his face lit up.

“Of course I will. I love you, Garon.”

“Love you too, sorella.” He told her. “I’ll call you tomorrow. Pina and I have some things to talk about.”

“Are you two alright?”

“We will be.” He closed the call. “You told her about our fight?”

“I had to. I couldn’t get hold of you, so I called Grazia. I’m sorry.”

“No, don’t be. Sometimes I just forget how close you two are, that’s all.”

I cleared my throat and gathered my nerves, knowing we still had a few things to get out on the table.

“Garon, what will happen now? To us, I mean. Last night…”

“I’m sorry.”

“It’s alright.”

“No, it’s not. I shouldn’t have…” He shook his head in shame, “I should have never treated you like that. It will never happen again, you have my word.”

“Okay. What about us?”

“What about us?”

“We were so happy this past month. I don’t want it to change. I love you and I want to be with you.”

“And I told you I’m here.”

“I just need to know if this proposal will always be a wall between us.”

“No. If you don’t want to get married to me, I can’t force you, Pina. Things can stay the way they were.”

“I want you to know that my heart belongs to you anyway.”

“That’s what makes no sense to me. You say things like that but refuse to marry me.”
