“What is this?”

Ava looked like a kid on Christmas morning, only she was the one handing out the gifts. “Open it.”

Destiny did, then reached in and pulled out the same zebra print pattern on the same burgundy background. “I only need one set Ava.”

“It’s not pj’s, it’s a robe, and matching slippers,” she said excitedly.

Destiny held it up. It was half a robe, which looked like it would barely cover her ass. She started calculating the cost in her head. The robe was likely more expensive than the pajamas and who knew the cost of the slippers. There was no way she was spending over $500.00 for bedtime attire.

Desi started to object but Ava interrupted.

“It’s a welcoming gift from me to you. I was serious when I said you looked like you could use a friend.”

“But—”

“No buts,” Ava said, flicking the light switch off. “C’mon, let’s go see your new home.”

“Okay, but I’m still paying you for the pj’s. Do you want this door closed?” Desi asked.

“It’s a deal and yes please.”

Together they walked down the hall towards the kitchen. “So, unfortunately you will have to make your meals down here,” Ava said, as they stepped into the room.

Destiny raised her brows as she looked at their surroundings. The appliances are what dazzled her the most. From the fridge and stove right down to the table mixer and toaster, they were all pink, heck even the sink matched their hue. The cupboards were white and the countertops a teal Formica that matched the paint on the walls. In any other kitchen it would have been too much. But this one was huge and with the black and white checkered flooring and the ruby red Formica table and chair set with chrome trim, made the kitchen look like it came straight out of a Sears catalogue from 1950, it was all out of date, but timeless.

“It’s a little wild, but for some reason it works with the rest of the place. If I ever get out of the spa business,” Ava shrugged a shoulder, “...who knows, it might be a selling point?”

Destiny nodded. “I agree, it’s lovely. I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Ava walked to a door and pulled it open. “Here is the pantry, feel free to use whatever is in there, but definitely check the dates,” she laughed.

Closing the door, she went to another one beside the back door that led outside and opened it. That one led to a flight of stairs. “You can use either staircase, this one is handy being right off the kitchen.”

Desi looked at her, confused.

“I didn’t see another one?”

“That’s because it’s behind a fake wall behind the front desk. If you look up when you’re standing at the front door, you can see it.” Ava started climbing the stairs and continued, “The very first day I opened one of the Bower’s kids thought it would be a neat idea to slide down the banister, all I could think of was the little shit falling and lawsuit flashed before my eyes. I hired a contractor the next day.”

“I can’t say I don’t blame you,” Desi said, as they stepped on the landing that opened into a large hallway. “Wow, I didn’t think it would be this big.”

“It is impressive,” Ava nodded. She then smiled at Desi, “C’mon, I’ll show you around.” Together they walked down the hall, Ava pointed out the bedrooms, five in total, but one was converted into a dining room and the master bedroom into a living room, which they had yet to see. “And here is the main staircase.”

It sat smack dab in the middle of the upstairs with a landing the size of a small bedroom. And it was glorious. Peering down it’s winding length, she could see why the Bower’s kid couldn’t resist it.

“It’s beautiful,” Desi murmured. She had never seen anything like it, even the one at the Inn paled in comparison. The whole place was something that Desi could only dream about owning one day. But she could at least rent it, even if it were only until she got her cat back. “How much do you want a month, Ava?”

“Nothing. You will be doing me a favour.”

“I can’t just—”

“Seriously, you can. I have had people come and swim in the pool after hours, despite there being a ten-foot fence around it. Again, another potential lawsuit that I don’t need.”

“Only if you’re sure...”

“Positive! When did you want to move in?” Ava looked at her as she removed a key off a keychain.

“Ah, well... today is my day off. If that works?”
