With that they all hurried into the house as the wind picked up and lightning flashed over the lake.

Destiny darted her eyes around the kitchen not daring to look at Lane as they entered. She had yet to thank him about last night and she was feeling a bit guilty. Her eyes settled on the grocery bag on the table, and she inwardly groaned. Ava told her to get some food and she completely forgot. She would have to root around the pantry for something to eat for supper instead because she wasn’t about to walk to the store in a storm.

“Where’s the dogs?” Taking a handful of paper towels, Kim looked at Lane while she sopped up the water from her shirt.

“Ben said to leave them there until they head over to your place.”

Dean nodded. “Makes sense. Gives you two time to get settled before they comes.”

Still holding the plant and bag, Lane looked at Desi and noticed she was avoiding him. The best way to fix that was to ask her something... what, he had no idea.

He cleared his throat, then blurted out, “Did you pick out which bedroom you wanted Destiny?”

If he could, he would have kicked himself for asking that question.

She jerked her head around to look at him. “Um, ah no.”

“Well come on then,” Kim said. “We have some time to kill before going back don’t we Dean?”

He said nothing but gave her that warning look.

“What?!”

He folded his arms across his chest and shook his head. “Nothing.”

“I didn’t think so, c’mon then,” Kim herded Desi and Lane towards the front staircase like she was a Border Collie, and they were sheep. Before Dean could change his mind, she glanced at him over her shoulder and said, “Grab those bags, will you?”

He did her biding and followed them along up the flight of stairs. They all stood in the landing at the top in silence until Kim could no longer stand it.

“So, did you pick out a room yet Lane?” she asked.

“No. I figured Desi should get first dibs seeing how I’m only here temporarily.”

Destiny froze at his words. If she was going to convince him to help her find Nala, she better figure out how to and quick. The wedding was less than three weeks away and with all the preparations time was ticking fast.

Playing it safe to not further piss him off, Desi looked at Lane. “It doesn’t matter to me really. I’ll take whichever one you don’t want.”

“Will you two quit pussyfooting around already?”

“Kim....”

Kim spun to look at Dean. “What now?”

“It’s time we left them to figure out their sleeping arrangements.” Dean caught Kim by the hand and tugged her along to the stairs.

She balked, “It’s still storming out.”

“Yup it is, and your pig is out in it,” he reminded her.

“Oh shit!” She shoved past him. “Why didn’t you say so before? Come on let’s go. Bye guys!”

Lane laughed and waved as they disappeared from their view, then turned and walked into the hallway, half expecting Desi to follow. When she didn’t, he looked back at her and sat the plant and bag down on the floor.

“You figure out which room you want. I’m heading to the kitchen to get us something to eat before the power goes out.”

Desi took a step towards him. “Oh. You don’t have to go to any trouble on my account. I’ll find something to eat.”

“I’m not. Mack had Rubens and fries on special today, so I grabbed two of them. If you don’t like them, there is other food.”
