With a snap of hisfingers from the boss man, a chair was pulled away from the table and placed behind Desi by Dan.

“I heard the other night you have yourself... a... boyfriend.”

Desi didn’t react. She refused to. Knowing this slimeball had to be the one outside the tent the other night while she and Lane were locked in the theories of passion, made her want to puke in his face. But she wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. She glanced around the room. Him having a bullet that size didn’t surprise her one bit. But it meant that there was a gun that it fit into as well.

“Sit my dear.”

She ignored his command and instead looked at him with pure hatred. “Where the hell is Nala, Brian?”

He looked at Dan and said, “Leave us.” Brian watched as he left the house the way they had come in and turned back towards Desi.

“Oh, come now. You must have missed me. Coming all the way to this godforsaken, middle of nowhere, hick town to follow me, hmm?”

“You know damn well why I’m here and it’s not for you.”

He walked over to her, stopping mere inches in front of where she stood. Picking up a lock of her hair, he let it slip through his fingers and said, “I do. But I’m afraid you’re too late. You see, she, your blue-eyed cat has been sold and is on her way to the States as we speak.”

With her hands still bound behind her back the only thing Desi could do to react was spit in his eye.

She stood her ground when he backhanded her across the face. Even when she immediately felt the burning sting from the ring on his finger, slice into the skin of her jawline.

“You would think you would have learned by now not to provoke me,” he said, wiping the spittle off his face.

Desi didn’t care after losing her whole family, her reason for living was that cat and now that she too was gone, she didn’t care what Brian did to her.

She watched as he picked up a walkie talkie and spoke into it. “Dan, come get her.”

Dan came back on the wire and said, “It will be a few minutes, I’m just checking out a vehicle parked down the road.”

When Desi heard that, she knew it had to be Ben’s car. At least she hoped it was and not Mark and Kim.

“Fuck! Who is the closest?” Brian yelled into the speaker.

Desi knew by the tone that he was getting pissed by the second. Brian never swore like that unless he was really upset. Good, she had at least gotten to him, the bastard.

“I’m right under you boss, feeding the cats,” Ike said, looking at Jasmine.

They were still in the ‘hole’, which was an underground cellar, feeding the cats and had heard every word that was said upstairs.

“Come get her now,” Brian ordered.

“Will do boss, I’m on my way.”

Jasmine grabbed Ike by the arm, stopping him as he stuffed the receiver into his coat pocket. “Bring her here. But don’t tell my brother.”

“Sure, I can do that,” Ike nodded then left out the door.

Ike liked Jasmine; she was always kind to him unlike the boss. He treated him like he was a dog. He would do as Jasmine said and not say a word to his boss.

Ike opened the door and saw the woman standing there. Blood dripped from a sore on her jaw and he knew she would need a stitch or two to close it.

Brian looked at the simpleton and said, “Get rid of her. I never want to see her again. Do you understand me?”

Ike nodded as he took the woman by the arm. “Yes boss. I can do that.”

“Good. And when you’re done, get back to guarding your post in front of the barn. We don’t need any escaping. The fight is tonight.”

“Yes boss,” Ike mumbled. He hated when it was fight night. The cries from the wounded would haunt him for weeks.
