“Hey there sexy lady. What can I do for you?”

“Stop that,” she snapped but soothed it with a giggle. “Jasmine and Brit are on their way up. Make yourself decent.”

“Already am, sweetheart.”

His endearment had her fumbling for words. What they had going on was so done. Now. She wasn’t falling for him again when he was leaving in a week.

“Okay. I’ll be up shortly. Can you keep them busy while I fix myself?”

“Will do, don’t be too long if you can help it. They are already up here... oh and bring some more food, will you? I’m a bit peckish I find after our...session.”

She didn’t need the reminder; she was staring at the table searching for sperm spots. “Gotta go!” she muttered.

Disconnecting the call, she grabbed the bleach from under the counter, put the plug in the sink and splashed some in then turned the tap on. Taking a rag from the drawer, she dunked it in and squeezed the water out. Turning, she thoroughly wiped the table and the whole area where Lane was standing. Knowing Kim, she would pop over and her eyes would zero in on a spec and she would announce it to the world. She didn’t need that. Satisfied with it, she rinsed the rag and drained the sink. Quickly she cleaned up the croutons and tossed them along with the bag into the garbage. Taking her undergarment out of the drawer she ran to the bathroom and closed the door. Good lord, no wonder Brit knew. Her hair looked like a rat had taken up residence on her head and her lipstick was smeared across her face. She pulled a foot long strip of toilet paper off the roll and dampened it under the tap. Scrubbing her face clean, she then pulled a brush through her hair after finding a scrunchie in the basket that Ava left out for her clients to use. Satisfied with her appearance, she stripped and donned her undergarments, then redressed. Feeling a hundred percent better, she left and returned to the kitchen. Pulling out a prepackaged meat and cheese tray, she popped the lid and opened the sleeve of crackers, dumping them in the center of the tray. Getting her trusty cookie sheet out, she piled the tray and added four pops, one for each of them to drink.

Knowing she had to face not only Brit who knew what Lane and she had been doing, but she also had to face him. She picked up the makeshift tray and took a deep breath. Steeling herself for the inevitable, she made her way to the stairs and started to climb.

Chapter 25

Desi could hear themtalking as she made her way down the hall, then Brit laughing at something Lane had said.

To say she wasn’t a teeny bit jealous was an understatement. After all, Brit was a tiny raven-haired beauty with dancing green eyes and Lane and her had a connection after all. He saved her life...Just like he saved yours...a tiny voice reminded her in her mind.

All eyes turned her way as she entered the room, Lane, thankfully with a shirt on, looking handsome as ever was sitting on the couch while the two ladies sat in armchairs across from him.

Brit smiled at her as Desi handed her a drink, “Lane was just telling us how when he heard you come home earlier, he thought someone was breaking in and was going to attack them with an umbrella.”

Desi took a deep breath and smiled at her. Eyes wide she looked at him and said, “Did he now?” Silently, she conveyed to him,did you tell them anything else?!

She relaxed when he shook his head but soon frowned when she realized the only place to sit was beside him. He smiled up at her and patted the seat next to him.

Desi nodded as a sweat broke out on her brow. Licking her suddenly dry lips she sent him a shaky smile.

She saw a worried look slash across his handsome face. “Are you okay?” he asked.

In that moment with him looking up at her, she knew she was a goner. The sun streaming through the window, bathed him in light. As silly as it sounded, he looked like an angel.
