Desi shrugged, nodded then stood and allowed Lane to pull her through the crowd. Once past the dance floor, they headed towards the pasture where the horses were standing in the moonlight.

Leaning his arms over the fence he looked at her watching the horses and said, “I’m sorry about the other day. I... got a little upset when you told me you were heading back to Montreal.”

Desi nodded. “Yes, you did.”

“Truth be told, I had no right, like you said, I’ll be leaving tomorrow cross country before I move, wherever that may be...”

She swallowed the lump in her throat. It was one thing knowing he was leaving for a trip across Canada, but it was an entirely different matter knowing he was moving across the world after that trip. To say she would miss him either way was an understatement. She already did and he was standing right beside her.

He straightened then turned to face her. “Aren’t you going to say anything?”

Desi turned her head and looked at him, shrugging, she said, “What’s there to say? You’ve made up your mind.”

He put his hands on her shoulders and held her at arm’s length. “You’re supposed to tell me—”

“Lane! Get your ass over here.” Both turned to see Ava standing fifty feet away with her hands cupped around her mouth. “These people want a show!”

“Give me a minute,” he snarled.

He looked back down at Desi, “As I was saying—”

“You want me to tell you that you’re a grumpy person? Because you are, you’re always scowling and snarling at people, it’s a wonder anyone talks to you...” Desi covered her hand with her mouth, stunned that she had said that.

Lane dropped his hand and looked at her with a tight smile on his lips. “I’m like that because I’ve had to live with you for the past two weeks. It’s been a blast waking up every morning with blue bal–”

Desi covered her ears. “I’m not listening to this. Go dance or something, I’m going home.” She turned and didn’t take more than two steps and Lane was turning her around to face him.

Desi knew what he was up to, he just wanted one last screw session before he rode off on his bike in the morning. Well, he could go do someone else because she wasn’t having any of it.

“Stay, watch me dance and then when it’s over you can leave, I’ll even give you a ride back to the spa, if that’s what you want.”

She did not look forward to walking home after the day she had. Slowly she nodded. “I’ll stay.”

A smile broke out on his lips. “Good, c’mon.”

They walked together in silence back to the dance area, Desi stopping just on the edge of it. Lane turned and stepped in front of her, taking her chin in his hand he looked into her eyes, “This song I swear was written about us.”

He backed up and suddenly on cue, the floor tiles under him lit up at the same time the first beat of Nickelback’s She Keeps Me Up, blasted through the speakers.

He started dancing, his whole body to the beat of the music as everyone jumped up and gathered around the floor to watch. At one point his shirt was wide open, and everyone saw the six pack he was sporting. All the single ladies and a few married ones too, started whistling and cheering him on to take his shirt off.

Desi was mesmerized, she knew he had a glorious body but when he danced it was more than glorious, it was downright sinful.

“He’s watching you...” Brit giggled from behind, right in her ear.

“I see that,” Desi breathed, barely.

“Better watch it, there’s a cougar over there at 2 o’clock,” Brit pointed over her shoulder. “She’s been gnashing her teeth at him since he stepped on the floor.”

Desi’s eyes bugged out of their sockets when the shirt was whipped off and he started doing that hip pump like he did when they had been together. “Huh...so that’s where he got that from,” she said in awe.

“Got what?”

Desi shook her head, “Ahhumm, nothing.”

“I wonder where he learned to dance like that?” Brit murmured, entranced like every other female ogling him.

“He had a brief stint as an exotic dancer,” Luke said, joining them as the song was winding down.
