He stood there looking at her before saying, “When are you going to realize that we are meant to be together? I’m falling in love with you. It’s you Desi. I want you.”

“Well, that’s just too bad now...” She stopped and cocked her head at him. “...what did you say?”

“I said, I’m falling in love with you. Last week when Brit mentioned you were leaving, I realized I was afraid of losing you. But the problem was I didn’t own you.” He took her hand in his and said, “Not that I want to. But I gave you nothing to stay for.”

“I think I’ve already fallen for you too,” she said, as she started to cry.

“Don’t do that,” he whispered, pulling her into his arms.

She wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tight, she said, “I can’t help it. I thought you didn’t want anything to do with me.”

“Don’t think like that.” He took her face in his hands and looked in her eyes. “I have since you threw a tray of biscuits at me.”

She laughed and kissed him on the side of the neck. “Are you ever going to let me live that down?”

“Never,” he snarled, capturing her lips with his.

From the other room, Kim yelled, “Aren’t you going to tell her the good news?”

Lane laughed, raising his voice, he said, “Were you listening this whole time?”

Desi smiled, looking into his eyes, she said, “Of course she was. Wasn’t that the good news?”

“Most definitely. But there is more,” he took her by the hand and started walking the short distance to the foyer. “I’ve decided to not go on my trip across Canada, but I will be moving.”

Desi stopped and stood still. She was not leaving Canada; did he expect a long-distance relationship?

Lane raised a brow at her. “Are you coming or what?”

“To where?”

“I’m looking at a house... to buy. I wanted to see what you thought of it,” he said, opening the door.

She raised hopeful eyes to him. “Does that mean...”

He nodded. “I took a consulting job, which means I can live anywhere in the world. I know how much you’ve grown to love it here, so that means even Pearl Lake. I want you there by my side. That is if you want to.”

When he looked at her with those baby blue eyes of his, she would follow him to hell if he asked. Her heart was singing as she threw herself into his awaiting arms.

“Yes, I’ll be there by your side,” she whispered, as his mouth captured hers in an earth-shattering kiss.

They both jumped as Kim smacked the counter.

“I knew it! I told Dean that you two would be perfect for each other, but he didn’t believe me,” she said. “Does this mean we are going to have another wedding?”

“Time will tell Aunt Kim,” Lane said, as he put an arm around Desi’s shoulders and steered her towards the open door. He brushed his lips over her hair and said, “Come on, let’s go for that ride that I promised you, after we look at the house.”

She smiled as she settled herself behind him on the bike then wrapped her arms around him.

“Don’t you want the helmet?” he asked over his shoulder.

She snuggled against him, relishing the feel of his strong back against her face. “No, I’m good.”

He nodded. “Hold on.”

As they pulled onto the laneway, both laughed as Kim yelled, “DEAN! There’s going to be another wedding!”

Kim could shout it to the entire village, Desi didn’t care. For once in her life, she was happy knowing the man in her arms, loved her for who she was. And like Lane had said, only time would tell.
