So much has changed since the last time I was here that after our bellies are full, I decide it was time to explore our surroundings. Bundling up, I set off with Bones by my side. I can’t shake the feeling that something important was about to happen.

As we ventured deeper into the snow-covered forest, I noticed strange markings on the trees. They seemed ancient and otherworldly, as if they held a secret. Touching one of the markings, a surge of energy coursed through me.

Images flash before my eyes— the full blood moon and visions of a world in turmoil, of darkness spreading across the land, and of a cataclysmic battle between forces, good vs evil. It’s a chilling glimpse of a future that could spell doom for earth.

I know now that my mission was more critical than I thought.

Bones lets out a warning bark. I look to see someone walking about a mile away headed straight for the cabin and I want no part of them. Thankful that the full moon is just peeking over the horizon, I call to the dog, and together we race back to the cabin.

Locking the door behind us, I pull off my winter gear and wished like hell that Satan had sent me with a least a gun for protection.

The fire in the fireplace crackles, casting dancing shadows across the cozy room. The dim light highlights the rustic furniture all seem welcoming except it doesn’t help with the impending doom feeling, knowing someone is headed this way. As I sit down, a sense of vulnerability washes over me. I yearn for some form of protection, and wish Satan would send something, anything, that I could use to defend myself against the unknown person approaching. The silence is deafening, broken only by the sound of the wind howling outside and Bones’ occasional low growl.

As the tension in the cabin grows, Bones’ instincts stay sharp, his ears perking up at every sound. I stroke his fur, seeking comfort in his presence. The crackling of the fire seems to be in rhythm with the pounding of my heart.

The minutes stretch on, each passing moment feeling like an eternity as I try to figure out my next move. The footsteps draw nearer, but still muffled by the layers of snow outside. I debate whether to peek through a window, hoping for a glimpse of the stranger, but fearing that I might draw their attention.

The thought of confronting a stranger in the middle of this wilderness fills me with unease. My mind races through scenarios, each one more harrowing than the last. I cast a worried glance towards the cabin's door, half-expecting it to burst open at any moment.

Bones’ low growls break the silence once again, a reminder that I'm not alone in this. His instincts are finely attuned, and his presence bolsters my own resolve. I silently thank Satan for allowing me to bring him along. Not that I would ever say that to his face because he would gloat for eternity if I did.

Taking a deep breath, I decide to take a chance and head over to the cabin's window as quiet as a mouse. Carefully parting the curtain, I peer outside, straining my eyes to catch a glimpse of the approaching figure. The moonlight casts an eerie glow over the snow-covered landscape, and there, about a hundred yards away, I spot a faint silhouette moving through the trees.

My heart skips a beat. It’s a man. Panic starts to well up within me, but I force myself to remain calm, after all I am a killer. I need more information. Is he a threat, or could he be a hunter seeking shelter?

I debate whether to call out, to let them know I'm inside the cabin. But caution holds me back. Instead, I grab a flashlight from a nearby shelf, ready to defend myself.

As the figure gets closer, I can make out a faint voice carried by the wind. My heart races as I try to figure out what the hell he’s saying.

Chapter 4

The biting wind cutsthrough my exposed skin as I trudged through the snow. Every step feels like I could freeze at any moment to the spot. The only thing that keeps me going is seeing smoke curl out of the cabin’s chimney.
