"He seems like he's telling the truth. He's not shuffling around; he's pretty calm. I mean, it's scary in itself that he really has no emotions, but he said everything that happened to Rory. I think he might be our guy."

"I'm leaning towards that too. We will have to speak to Archer when he comes out for his opinion."

We go back to Archer, who is staring intently at the guy. "Do you think you will make it in prison? Especially if you're lying about this. Because if you are, they will rip you apart."

"I'm not scared of anybody. And I did do this. I confess that I brutally tortured and killed Rory Johnson."

"Well, then that does it." Archer gets up and walks out of the room. We wait for him to come into our room to debrief. This is all craziness. The guy doesn't move and goes back to his previous position. Uncaring, simply unmovable.

Archer walks in and says, "What the fuck? Do we believe

this guy? I couldn't exactly find any lie detected. But this seems too

easy."

I look at Nisa, "You're the boss. What are we going to do?"

She lets out a sigh. "I think we just take this guy's word. I mean, Daph, you are sure no one else got your notes?"

"No, I write them, and I take them home with me too, so the only way someone could've gotten them is of my person, and I know that they haven't. I mean, the building-only agents can get down to my lab. I think I believe this guy."

She looks back at Archer. "Get a background check. See if he's actually ex-military and if he worked in the medical field."

"Also, see if he volunteered or worked at the Veterans Hospital. Or was a resident. The glove came from there, so the coincidence that the guy was in the military and the glove we found came from the hospital is too large to overlook it."

"You two are bossy together." But he still walks out of the door to get started on that.

"What happens if that all checks out?"

"Yes, that poor person. I haven't looked at them in a while. It will be good to have fresh eyes to help me move faster. See if I missed anything from staring at it too long."

"Work on that for the time being, but you can go back to normal hours until we get a new case. I'm not too concerned with the bones given their state, but we will still work diligently on at least finding out who it is."

"With how shattered they are, it will be difficult to find the cause of death. If enough bones are missing, they might throw off the trajectory and size of the pattern. I can always estimate it, though. Given that they are older, a couple months, there might not be enough evidence. It will just be another cold case file."

"Hey, don't beat yourself up. If evidence isn't there, then it simply isn't there. You can't pull it out of a hat. Anyways, I'm assuming you're going to have a lot more time to spend with your new man."

"He's not my new man." He kind of is, though, after that

declaration in the car of being his.

"How long has it been going on?"

"A couple days. But I had a crush on him since the second day that I started working here."

"Not the first day?"

"The first day, I was so focused on impressing you that I really did not focus on anything else. You really took me for my word that I'm good at what I do. You didn't discriminate against who I'm related to. I truly am thankful for that, Nisa."

She touches my shoulder, "Daph, you are the best forensic scientist that we have had for a long time. I'm going to miss you when you decide that you can be somewhere that pays you better. But you deserve it, so don't think you owe anyone here anything."

"Thank you." I look back over to Eric Delmont, who's sitting in that chair, still completely at a standstill. "I do hope that this is the guy. I would hate for Rory's case to run cold."

"Me too. Come on, let's go, no need to keep watching him if

he's not going to move. I'll keep you updated on what happens from here. Whether or not you need to gather more evidence. But keep the hospital records because we might need them for future cases."

"Got it." We walked out, and all the agents dispersed back to their desks or offices. The floor is very peaceful now. I bet the people who work on this floor are pleased about that. The only person I didn't see on the floor was Grey Carson. "Hey Nisa, I have to tell you something that happened in my lab."
