already having plans. It's okay; I think I'm going to call Cor and see if she wants to do a movie night."

"Okay, little fox, have a good night."

"You, too, have fun with weepy Liam."

I laugh, give her a little bye, and hang up. Yep, so I'm going to kill Liam for making me miss hanging out with her for the night. I finish eating and put the dishes in the sink. Going back upstairs, I grab the gun that I use for these jobs. I need a new one soon. I like to swap them out whenever I feel like I use them too often. I don't want so many of the same bullets at the same crime scenes. I load it and put the safety on, putting it in my waistband. I lift my pant leg up and put my throwing knives under the band of my sock. Just in case people always take the guns, they don't look for weapons that can be hidden easily. Going back downstairs, I put on my combat boots that cover my knives well enough that they've never been found. I shoot Liam a text.

Me: Going to grab the pizza now.

Liam: Okay, I'll grab the beer.

That's been our code for this month. We switch it up every month to not always sound the same. I walk out, grab a hoodie, and start walking to our place. It's a more relaxed night for D.C., but there is always something going on. The streetlights are on, and restaurants are buzzing with businesspeople or date nights happening. A sense of calm takes over at night compared to the rush of the morning. I need to take Daph out for food. Maybe a little cozy Italian place, something family-owned, so we get the authentic sauce.

As I start to walk, the weather begins to turn more brisk; I am glad I brought my hoodie as I stick my hands in my pockets. I'm finally in the side of town no one really wants to be in. Speed walking to stay warm is really my specialty. I turn on the last corner and see that Liam is already here waiting for me in his black Maserati. That's the most blendable car in the city. But he likes to show off when we do these jobs. Showing his power and his wealth. He keeps the car in his garage usually for the day but takes it out at night. He thinks that it will blend in more with the police, but they aren't looking at Liam Webber. He looks too clean on paper. Little

do they know he does dirty work on the side.

I walk up to his car and get in. Thankfully, the car is warmed up. It is a really nice car, I have to admit. It's not really my taste, but it looks good to others. Especially Liam's clients; to him, impressing them makes them trust him more. I mean, would you want to buy illegal weapons and drugs from someone who drives a Toyota Camry. I know I sure as hell wouldn't.

"Thank you for doing this, Arch."

"When do I ever say no to you, Liam. I can admit that I do sometimes get a rush of adrenaline from doing these jobs. Speaking of jobs, I need to tell you something."

He looks at me as he starts to drive. He's in an all-black suit. He is probably a Brioni; he really does love to show off. His hair is pulled back, so his curls are out of his face. He looks smug when he plays this part. "That sounds serious, what's going on?"

"I found something out, but you can tell no one, and if anyone finds out and lays a hand on her, I will come for you. And that is a vow."

"Your girl already has you by your balls."

"I would watch your mouth. Even though we are like brothers, I will not sit here and hear you talk about her like she's a nobody. She's Marcelo Buchanan's niece."

His car swerves. "No fucking way. You mean to tell me that-"

"Yes, to that question. Daphne can never find out that we know her uncle or this business that we are involved in. I can't lose her for all that I've done."

"Arch, I'm sorry."

"The thing is, even if I knew who she was, I still would've gone for her. She's something special. But don't worry, I won't tell her anything about the business."

"Thank you, brother."

"But I think this might be my last day with you. Unless you really need me on something. I can't risk her finding out."

"Understandable."

"So, what is today about? What are we selling?"

"Just a delivery for a new type of drug. We don't have it; they pick it up with the shipper; we are basically the middleman today. It should be easy and fast, hopefully. I just need you to stand by and look pretty. That should be easy enough for you, right?"

I roll my eyes. "Yes, I can sit there and play pretty quiet bodyguard, making sure you don't get yourself killed."

"Thank you." Liam finally pulls into the place. A little abandoned building is offset by a river. Quiet for an excellent deal to go on under the radar. Liam parks close to the door. "Okay, you know the deal. Keep silent; I need you to look like only my bodyguard. Like I don't care about your life. But brother, stay safe, and don't let me get killed."

"Gotcha." We step out of the car together and head in. Right away, I noticed a guy guarding the front of the building.

"I'm here to meet Jace," Liam says to the guy with tattoos covering everywhere, including his head. He looks us up and down, sizing us up. It's probably downplaying how lethal me and Liam are together. Of course, it's more me than Liam, but I guess he helps at times.

The guy finally says alright and leads us down the hallway to a room that's completely empty save for a table, chairs, and a guy sitting at one of the chairs. This is creepy, to say the least. Usually, we stand. We step forward to meet with the guy that's sitting. He's Black in a tailored suit and very good-looking. I guess for someone who likes guys. Not personally my taste, but who knows, I would share Daphne with someone.
