“Hello, ‘little fox,’” he mocks to me.

“Are you going to tell me what the fuck is going on? Why the fuck are you here?” He steps forward, and I step back. The book makes sense now. He was imagining himself when he was watching me read it. I throw up in my mouth. I’m going to be sick.

“Don’t you know, I’m your date for the night. I figured you can’t say no now that I have your dear little sister.”

“You took Cordelia.” My anger boils. I bested him before I could do it again. “Why?”

“I knew that you would try your hardest to get away. But if I had some type of leverage on you, you wouldn’t try as hard. You have no idea where she is. Or what my people have done to her.”

I feel like I’m about to explode. I step back again, but he keeps pressing forward.

“You’re mine now.” He grabs for me, and I struggle, but now that I’m not in long sleeves, he has a better grip on my arms. He grabs me and throws me on the bed. No, no, this can’t be happening. I try to scramble up, but he gets on top of me.

“Oh, do I have big plans for you, Daphne, dear?” He grabs my wrists to hold me down. I do what I think is best for my survival.

“Grey, I thought dessert was for after the date.” I stop struggling and look at him. Hoping this works. Please let this work.

“What do you mean, Daph?” He keeps my wrists held down but lets off some of the pressure.

“Well, you haven’t taken me on our date yet. Usually, a gentleman at least does that before they get something in return.” I turn my gaze as seductively as I can stomach.

“Are you trying to play me for a fool?”

“No,” I say as I grind against him; I feel disgusting as I do it.

He’s hard, and I have no idea how I manage to keep the little food that’s in my stomach down.

“Mm, pretty little thing. I have so many plans for you.” He lessens the pressure on my wrists, and that’s all I need to knee him and push him off me. I go to the door, praying he left his guard down and left it open.

It’s open, and I rush out. This is way too easy. I hear Grey when he reaches the door. He screams, but it’s with a groan. Good, at least I hit his dick. “Daphne, you better get back here now.”

I keep my eyes focused on pushing forward. Down hallways with no sense of direction. There needs to be an exit somewhere. My legs are burning; I need to start going to the gym after this. I make a sharp turn right, smacking into the corner as I go. I haven’t looked behind me; I don’t know how fast Grey is gaining on me. I think I might falter if I look, and he’s basically on top of me. I hear his footsteps getting closer with each step I take.

Adrenaline is the only thing keeping me going right now. My fight-or-flight response is coursing through my veins. I’m not

stopping. I make a left, picking up speed. I see a sign that says ‘stairs’ and push through that door. I run down the steps. A second later, I hear the same door open and Grey following. He’s still behind me. Good. I’m at the bottom of the stairs. I made it. I push through the door. Only to realize it must be the basement. There are no windows anywhere. I passed the first floor. What the fuck.

Looking behind me, Grey hasn’t come through the doors yet. I run to go hide somewhere. The place has office desks everywhere. Papers are everywhere, and you can tell they’ve been here a while. They look like they have mildew and water damage all over them. The building must have been abandoned for a time. The intelligent way is to put myself as far away from the door as possible. But that’s the way he’ll be expecting me to go. If I stay up near the entrance, I can run up the stairs. I make the decision and hide behind a desk near the door. Somewhere where I can keep an eye on him but still be hidden. It doesn’t help that I’m in red, and it doesn’t blend into anything. But from this angle, he shouldn’t see me.

The door opens, and I flinch. Grey walks in, clearly out of breath. “Fucking bitch, you missed the first floor. Nowhere to run in

here. There are no exits in a basement.”

He laughs, and it’s as sinister as ever. I see him move around. “Where’d you go, Daphne. Come out now and play. Or I’ll play with your sister.”

He laughs again, and I feel it in my bones. Cordelia. I shouldn’t have run. He starts to move to the back of the room, and I slowly creep out from behind the desk. Making my way slowly to the door. I’m getting so drained. I don’t know how much longer I can run.

I see him disappear in an office, and I know here’s my chance. I get up and run to the door. Opening it and slamming it shut behind me. Racing back up the stairs, I come to the landing that says ‘Ground Floor,’ which I completely missed when I was running down the stairs for my life. I open the door, and there are windows. I stop to look out, and we are on the river. Nobody or things on site. I start to run again, only to be pushed by a force behind me. I’m knocked to the ground by my hands. I look up to find Grey. I’m so fucking stupid, everybody knows not to stop in horror films. Why

did I stop?

He kicks me in the stomach, and I’m immediately winded. I try to push up, but he repeats the torment.

“You’re so foolish.” That’s exactly how I feel when he kicks me again. I crawl, trying to get away from him. He drags me closer to him and flips me over onto my back. He’s on top of me now. Staring down at me with so much venom and disgust. Like I’m filth on his shoe. I spit at him, and it hits its target right on his cheek. He slaps me. Hard. I see stars.

“You little bitch. Do you want to die early? I had so many plans for you, but you’re really testing my patience.”

I struggle once more. Seeing if there’s any opening to get away. I don’t want to see what those plans he has for me are. I fucked this whole thing up. He is right; I am so fucking stupid. He grabs my wrists tightly.
