Rowan didn’t know whether to tell his people to stay out of the woods until he found out what it was that was causing this. It pained him that it might have to come to that, but the safety of his people was more important.

“To the Twin Moon, sir?” Everett, his driver, was already standing by the car when Rowan made it down to the garage.

There were several sports cars lined up against the opposing walls from the time when Rowan had his brief obsession with vehicles. It was long gone now. It felt rather juvenile to be jetting around Moonwood in a Ferarri. He just stuck to his Maserati now. It had more room to throw things in the back seat too.

“Yes, thank you, Everett.” Rowan preferred not to drive when he was drunk, so whenever he was heading to see his friends, he brought Everett. They all did, really. Human alcohol did nothing for him, but the brew at Twin Moon was not for humans. It could knock a bear unconscious with a single shot.

Everett did not work all the time, as Rowan liked to drive himself most times, but he was always at the ready the moment he was called upon.

His friends were already sitting at their usual table when Rowan arrived at the bar. Articus stood up to greet him.

Articus stood at six foot four and he was exceedingly muscular. He had bright blue eyes which shone an even brighter blue when he allowed his wolf to come out. His hair was white all over. From his head to his feet, there was not a hair on his body that was not white, even his eyelashes. He was an albino wolf and just like him, his wolf was also white.

It had been that way in his family for centuries, which was why they were the White Moon pack.

“Oh, finally you’re here.” Articus offered Rowan a small smile.

Xander, who was sitting beside Articus, looked up next. Xander Black was the alpha of the Moon Shadow pack. Xander raised his beer in greetings, his large, bearlike hands completely swallowing up the bottle. He was the exact opposite of Articus. He had black hair and black eyes. Just like him, his wolf was also black.

“Hey,” he said, his bushy brows furrowing as he spoke.

Rowan returned his greeting, exchanging greetings with the rest of his friends as well before taking a seat next to Articus.

“I’m sorry I’m late,” he apologized once again.

“It’s not a big deal. We weren’t really talking about anything before you showed up,” Articus said, waving off his apology.

“Yeah, nothing to worry about,” Blake reiterated. Blake Bennett was the alpha of the Yellow Cicada pack. He had auburn hair and hazel eyes. He was six foot three and very easygoing. His wolf was a red wolf.

Rowan looked at the rest of his friends around the table. Fannar Agdluak was the alpha of the Frost Peaks pack. Just like Articus, he had white hair. His eyes were the clear gray of ice, and his personality was as cold as his eyes.

Fannar was nicknamed the Yeti because his white wolf could so easily blend in with the snow and would never be spotted. He was six foot seven and his pack lived up in the cold mountains.

Next to him was Callahan Finn. He was the alpha of the Summer Rain pack. He had light-blond hair and brown eyes. He was the perfect definition of a golden retriever personality, which contradicted his towering height of six foot five. Just like his hair, his wolf was blond.

Asher Grey was the last of Rowan’s friends. Asher was the alpha of the Ghostbound pack. He had gray hair and black eyes. He was the opposite of Callahan—mysterious and almost scary.

Asher’s pack lived in the Cursed Lands, said to be built on the corpses of supernaturals who had been killed. It was a scary place for most people, but his pack lived there to protect the graves of the supernaturals. He had a gray wolf and stood at six foot six.

Rowan nodded and looked around the bar as he thought about the woods again. He would need to tell his friends about it so they could all look into it together. If they were all looking into it, it would probably increase his chances of finding whatever it was that was responsible.

Right as he was thinking that, the doors opened and Rowan felt that familiar feeling that he only ever felt in his dreams now—the feeling of warmth and joy and love. The feeling of his mate came over him as she walked in.

Rowan’s breath was knocked out of him as everything slowed while she walked toward him.

Her hair was shorter than he remembered, falling only to her chest. There were purple streaks lining the strands. Her gorgeous raven eyes had a tired look in them. Her makeup, just like her hair and eyes, was dark, as were her clothes.

Her style wasn’t the only way she had changed.

She had matured quite a lot and had filled out nicely. She looked stronger, like she’d been working out more. She also appeared more confident as opposed to the doe-eyed look that she’d worn the last time he saw her.

She looked at him and their eyes met. She froze, the same way he had been frozen in place.

“Juniper.”

Chapter 3 - Juniper

Juniper had successfully gotten through her meal without the young wolf coming up to ask her who she was, although she’d felt the girl’s eyes on her until she’d left the diner. After eating, she found herself a room as quickly as she could because she was exhausted.
