Rome hugs me, squeezing me tight and I soak up the feeling. He kisses my forehead and says, “I think you will. It’s going to be hard, waiting, but I think it’ll work out. And you’ll be ready to help him when you find him. I’ll be here, supporting you any way you need.”

“Gods, tell me why we didn’t start dating months ago? Oh, that’s right, you hated me.”

Rome slaps my ass, making me laugh. I keep my moan to myself as his knot moves inside me. “I never hated you. I think that was all you.”

“Maybe,” I say with a shrug. “You macho alphas always throw your weight around. It was kinda hot though.”

“I’ll have to remember to do it when we go back to work. Maybe fuck you on my desk again.”

“I would love that.”

Rome’s knot goes down shortly after and he takes me to the living room, deposits me on the couch and wraps the throw blanket around me. After getting his pants back on, he makes us dinner, a whole meal after I told him I didn’t feel a heat wave coming on.

After he fixes us dinner, we eat in silence, smiling at each other every now and then. When my plate is clear, I sit back on the couch, my stomach full to bursting. “That was great. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Did you eat this much during your last heat?”

I shake my head. “No. Or sleep. Looks like the surgery helped. I’m thankful for that. I don’t think I could have handled another long heat like the first two. I thought about taking heat suppressants this cycle, but my doctor wanted to know for sure if any part of the procedure worked.”

“Good. I’m glad it’s better for you. Are you feeling tired now?”

“A little, but I want to talk to you. There’s so much I don’t know.”

Rome turns to face me. “Yeah? Like what?”

“Like what happens after this? Where do we go from here?”

“As slow or as fast as you want. Your heat doesn’t have to interrupt me wanting to get to know you better.” He grabs my hands, his warm palms feeling good against mine. “We can do whatever you want to do, okay?”

Smiling, I nod, sliding close to him and lying against his side. “Thank you. I do know I don’t want to be without you.”

“Same for me, my little omega.”

Opening the blanket, I bundle us both up and we sit on the couch for a while, talking and getting to know each other, hoping to start our relationship on the right foot.

Chapter 11

Rome

Whendaythreecomesand goes, we both realize that it’s not going to be a normal heat in that regard. Even still, Benjamin looks surprised and excited that he’s getting a reprieve from the pain he experienced with his previous heats. Every time I fuck him, his womb opens for me and I feel more and more possessive of my mate because he has a piece of me inside him that no one else can give.

If I’m honest, I’m not sure how his body is holding all my cum. I don’t think I’ve ever come this much in my life, but Benjamin only leaks a little. Maybe it’ll happen after his heat ends. My cheeks flush as I think about all that cum. Poor Benjamin.

Since his heat hasn’t been too bad, I’ve had time to cook for him, wash him, cuddle with him, and talk to him. Benjamin is fucking perfect. I keep kicking myself for allowing the shit Levi put me through to keep me away from this amazing man.

Like now, he’s laughing at a story I told him, his even white teeth flashing as a deep chuckle leaves his throat. “So, you mean to tell me,” he says through another bout of uncontrollable laughter, “your dad caught you … masturbating in the kitchen?”

I roll my eyes, wishing I didn’t tell him that story. It’s already embarrassing just thinking about it. “Yeah, well, I was a thirteen-year-old kid and hormones were raging.” He continues to laugh and I can’t hold out anymore and join him. “Not my finest moment, that’s for sure.”

“Why the kitchen?”

I shrug, even more embarrassed to tell him my teenage logic. “My room was too far away and our stairs creaked. I thought I’d have time to cover myself if I was far away from the living room.”

That seems to burst the dam Benjamin was trying to hold back and he laughs so hard tears fall. “Rome, that makes no sense.”

“I know,” I say, throwing my hands up. “I was thirteen! It made sense at the time.”

I sit back and cross my arms over my chest. I’m not pouting, I’m really not.
