Rome agrees with a grin, leaning over to kiss my cheek. Of course, my face turns red and arousal stirs in my gut. Gods, will I be so insatiable from just a kiss on the cheek now?

To try to take my mind off wanting Rome to make me come, I say, “Brandon wants to have lunch with us when we get the chance. Is that okay?”

“Yes. I’d love to meet him. When is your next doctor’s appointment?” he asks. I gape at the sudden subject change.

“Umm … I have to make it actually. My doctor wanted to see me after my heat so we could go over how it went and to get bloodwork and a physical. Why?”

“I’ll be there.” He stuffs my phone in my hand. “Make the appointment so I can add it to my calendar.”

Doing what my alpha says, I make the appointment for a month from now. Then, not wanting to think any more about whatever is outside these four walls, I pull Rome over to the couch and we talk well into the night. It’s been an absolutely perfect day.

Chapter 13

Rome

Lifewithmymateis shockingly easy to settle into. He’s so different than I thought he would be. He’s so soft and gentle, a caretaker and a nurturer. Even though we both work the same hours most times, when I come over to his place, he has dinner ready and likes to fuss over me when I don’t get enough rest.

It’s been a week since his heat ended and I realized that Benjamin and I have spent pretty much every day inside after work. I took him to lunch once, but that had to be quick, since I had to be in court about thirty minutes later.

There’s no reason for us to be cooped up inside, especially since I want to show my mate off.

Exiting my office, I smile as I see him typing away at his computer, fingers moving a mile a minute. I walk up behind him and wrap my arms around his shoulders, bending down to kiss the side of his neck, his jasmine scent almost overwhelming me. I breathe him in and sigh, loving the fresh flower scent.

Benji stops typing and leans into me, tilting his neck to the side. “Sir, I don’t think you’re allowed to fraternize with your employees.”

I nip his neck, making him squeal and laugh. “Smart ass.” I turn his chair around and kneel in front of him. “How much more do you have to do?”

“Just this last report for you and then I’m going to make my calendar for next week.”

“No, you’re going to shut your computer down, go home, and get dressed. I’m taking you out tonight.”

His eyes flare. “Yeah? Where? What should I wear? Is there going to be naked fun after?”

Chuckling, I stand up and reach around him, turning off his monitor. “Whatever you had to do can wait until Monday. Go home, pack a bag, and stay with me this weekend.” Leaning into him, I capture his lips in a soft kiss. “Let’s lounge around my house for a few days, eating take out and watching bad movies. We can go for walks and get some fresh air. Whatever you want to do.”

Benjamin’s smile is blinding and I can’t look away. He’s so gorgeous. Gods, why didn’t I try to make him mine ages ago? I really let Levi’s bullshit hold me up from my life. So much so, that I almost missed out on the man that was made for me.

Nodding, he turns around and turns his monitor back on. “I’d love that. But you can’t just turn the monitor off, Rome. I have to save my work.” He glances over his shoulder. “As soon as I send this to you, I’ll go home. You have to go home too. No working late and standing me up on our date.”

“I wouldn’t dream of it, my sweet omega.” I kiss the top of his head and walk back into my office, wrapping everything up so I can spend time with my omega for the weekend.

When I get home, I straighten up my house, putting away laundry and making my bed with new sheets. I make sure my place looks presentable before I bring Benji back here, since his place is always immaculate. Even during his heat, he tried to clean up—though there wasn’t much that needed to be cleaned.

Satisfied that my house isn’t an embarrassment, I go pick Benjamin up. My plan is to drop his bags off and grab some dinner. From there, we can wing it. As long as I’m with him, talking and getting to know him more, I’m happy.

Benjamin is ready by the time I get there, opening the door with his bag over his shoulder. “Hey,” he says brightly, wrapping his arms around my neck. As usual, I tuck my face into his neck, getting a lungful of his flowery scent. I wish I could bottle it up and keep it with me so I can inhale it when he’s not with me.

“Hey yourself. Got everything you need?” He nods and motions to his bag. “Good. Want to go straight to dinner or drop your bag off?”

“Where are we going for dinner?”

“I made reservations at the new fusion restaurant downtown. We have some time before we have to go.”

“Okay, let’s go to your place first. I’d love a tour.”

The drive to my house doesn’t take long, but there’s a sharp contrast between our homes. Benjamin’s apartment is in a nice neighborhood, but I stay in a more upscale area. I feel my cheeks heat when I see Benjamin’s eyes widen as he looks around. I’m not ashamed about where I stay, but I don’t want him to think I’m being pretentious. I really just loved the design and could afford it. And I was a little reckless after Levi and I broke up, going through a brief midlife crisis. One mini mansion and an Audi later, and I finally got back to who I was.

Luckily, I was good with money and savings and didn’t become debt-ridden because I refused to go to therapy, as Benjamin pointed out.
