I know she's not; why the fuck did I just ask that?

Fuck. What am I, a fucking idiot? Shit.

She nods. "Sometimes, it gets hard. Your friend seems like a nice guy, and this woman, his woman, has had her baby kicked out of her. I mean, what evil would do something like that?" She shakes her head and wipes some more tears. "It's just hard sometimes."

I give her a small smile.

Fuck.

I love how she cares. Not like fake cares but actually cares; it's fucking refreshing.

I clear my throat. "You did good. Despite having several big bikers staring at you, You kept Axel your main focus. When Cammy overstepped, not thinking of her blood son, you did. You put him first."

She gives me a small smile, and my heart fucking melts.

Fuck, she's got a beautiful smile.

I stand, feeling bold, before I bend and gently kiss her forehead, causing her to suck in a breath, and I smirk. It's good to know I'm not the only one affected. I gently wipe away another tear and fuck; her skin feels so soft. I give her a smile before I turn and leave. "I'll be seeing you, Melanie."

I hear her gasp when I say her name, and I smirk again.

Hook, line, and fucking sinker—she's mine!

As I get around the corner, I see Cammy standing by the doors with tears falling down her cheeks, and she looks at me and says, "I didn't put my son first."

I just shake my head and keep walking while I say over my shoulder, "You've got a habit of overstepping lately, Cammy," before I head into the hospital to see if Axel has been out yet.

Chapter 6

Melanie

I sigh before I scrub my hand down my face. I look around the corner one more time and inwardly curse. I have to go check on Annalise Lawrence, but the guy who I caught fucking Cassidy is currently standing near the nurse's desk, which is right near her room, talking to Sarah, the OB, who is supposed to be happily married.

I tilt my head and raise a brow while watching her touch his arm, twirl her mousy brown hair, and giggle, all while Cassidy stands back with a scowl on her face.

I snort.

OK, it's time to pull my big girl panties up and just go see my patient.

Right. My patient, who's gone mute,

Fuck.

I take a deep breath and walk out of where I was hiding.

I was planning on just walking by, hoping they wouldn't notice me because of their deep flirting, but Sarah decided differently.

Damn it.

"Oh, Melanie, just the nurse I was looking for."

I stop by her and give her a smile, ignoring the man next to her. She side-eyes him, her brown eyes sparkling, and I try not to smirk as she slowly moves her ring around like that'll hide the fact she's married. Poor Peter deserves better.

"What can I do for you, Sarah?" I ask nicely, and she looks back at me, clearing her throat, probably hoping I didn't just catch her eyeing someone who isn't her husband.

"I've left you all of Ms. Lawrence's notes on the desk. She's officially discharged from my services."

I nod and say, "OK, I'll make sure to log it all. Did you do the second scan?"
