Her cheeks blush, making me smile, which soon drops when she shakes her head. "I'm sorry, but I can't, plus I don't share."

Then she shrugs, stepping back from my touch before walking the rest of her way to her old beetle. I quickly rush after her and grab her door before she can close it, making her jump before I kneel down.

I sigh. "I know how we met didn't exactly paint me well. I fucked up; I know this, but all I'm asking for is one date; that's it, and if you don't have a good time, then I'll walk away."

She tilts her head a little, assessing me, and I give her a small smile and say, "Just one date, Melanie."

She looks at war.

I can see in her eyes she wants to try this with me, that she feels this, but she's scared, and I get that. She clears her throat and looks forward briefly before looking back at me. "I'm sorry, I just can't. You have heartbreak written all over you. I'm sorry."

I sigh as she leans forward and places a gentle kiss on my cheek before putting her seatbelt on.

I nod and stand before leaning toward her. "I'm not giving up, Melanie. I mean it; I know you feel this, baby."

She gives me sad eyes before I shut her door, and I watch her drive away. It doesn't matter how much she tries to push me away; I'll just pull her harder. I know she feels this between us, so she'll give sooner or later.

I grin before getting back on my bike with determination and heading back to the clubhouse.

When I walk through the doors, I see Ink sitting at the bar, frowning, and I walk over to him. I pat him on the back before taking a seat, then nod to the prospect for a beer before turning back to him and asking, "What's up, brother?"

He shakes his head. "When you first saw the nurse, how did—I mean, when did. Fuck." He ran a hand through his hair in frustration before looking at me and asking, "How did you know she was the one?" Both my brows shoot high into my hairline, and I bite my bottom lip to stop the laughter from coming out, and he growls, about to get up, "Fuck it, never mind."

I laugh and quickly grab his arm, pulling him back down. "I'm sorry, okay, sorry. I just knew. I felt it in my gut; everything stood still, and she was all I could see."

"Fuck" Ink bangs his head on the bar.

"Alright, brother. What happened?"

He sighs and sits back up. "I was at the bar hoping to score some new pussy when this beautiful vision walked through the door. Fuck brother, I felt like someone punched me in my fucking gut like instantly I knew she was meant to be mine."

I snort and nod my head. "Yep, that sounds about right, brother."

He growls in frustration. "I hit on her, but she fucking turned me down. She said she wasn't interested, but I could see the spark in her eyes when she looked at me." He runs his hands through his hair again. "She's Leah's roommate, and apparently, she's kind of seeing someone. A banker or some shit—damn it."

He bangs his head on the bar again, and I pat his back, chuckling.

"Don't give up, brother; kind of seeing isn't actually seeing. Persevere and all that fucking shit."

He sits up again and nods his head before he looks at me and tilts his head. "Why did Dad ask me what happened to the TV when I was 8?"

I snort at his conversation change and shrug. "I don't know; why did you tell him?"

"Trav, don't give me that shit. Why in the fuck is he asking me shit from years ago?"

His eyes are serious, and I nod, knowing he needs to know. As long as he doesn't know everything, then it'll be all good. Ink doesn't need to know his momma's an abuser.

I clear my throat. "Stormy nearly broke my jaw for it."

His eyes widen in shock. "But I was the one who fucking did it; momma pissed me off, and I pushed the TV over. You weren't even fucking home; you were at homework club. What the fuck?"

I just shrug before I pat his back again and get up. "Don't worry about it, brother; it's in the past. I'll see you later."

I go to walk towards the door when I hear him call for me again, and I turn slightly.

"How many other times have you punished me for my wrongdoings?" His eyes are serious, while realization and concern shine through them. Still, I just give him a smile before continuing down the hallway to my office to start a thorough search for my girl. "Like I said, brother, it's in the past."

A couple of days later, I'm sitting outside of the hospital with Melanie scowling at me from one of the windows when my phone pings from Axel.
