His voice has gone angry. Why's he angry with Mommy?

I bang on the door again, crying, but they don't listen.

"Callum? What's going on? Why are your bags packed?"

I hear Daddy chuckle.

"Maybe because I just discovered that MY daughter isn't even MY daughter. You cheated on me with a fucking biker!"

My tears still fall, not understanding what they're talking about. He sounds so angry.

"Who-who told you that?" Mommy sounds scared; why is she scared?

"The biker's wife offered me $100,000 to hand Mel's over to her."

I hear my mommy gasp.

"Callum, l-listen to me. It was a mistake. We both agreed to forget it ever happened; please, please, she's yours, please."

He scoffs, and I bang again, "DADDY, DADDY."

They both ignore me still, and I sniffle.

"Honestly, I don't give a shit if it was a mistake; THAT'S NOT MY KID."

I jump at his shout.

"I've been looking for an excuse to leave your skanky ass; you cheated, which means everything's fucking mine per the agreement of the prenup. Enjoy being a broke bitch. You have 48 hours to vacate the premises. The house has been sold."

I hear Mommy scream, "CALLUM!" before there's a bang from the front door, and I run towards my window. My tears fall harder when I see Daddy climbing into his car, and I bang on the window, "DADDY." He looks up and waves with a small smile, then leaves, driving away.

"DADDY, DADDY."

My door unlocks, and Mommy comes in with her cheeks wet. I go running towards her, wanting a mommy cuddle because they make everything better. Still, when I get near her, a loud slap sounds into the room, and I scream, falling to the floor, my cheek hurting, and I cry. She grabs my hair and makes me look at her while I sob in pain. "No dinner for you tonight. This is your fault; he's left."

Then she spits in my face before throwing me on the floor and slamming my head against it.

She slams my door shut, and I hear it lock again.

I don't move. I can't.

What did I do wrong?

Chapter 1

Dagger – 30 years old – current day

I sit in church next to Axel as our brothers sit around the solid oak table. Ink, my blood brother, sits next to me as our club secretary, while Gunner, our enforcer, sits on the other side of Axel. Slicer, our treasurer, sits next to Flame, our road captain and tech guru, before Hawk, our sergeant at arms, sits down. Then we have the old timers—Dead Shot, Butch, Stormy, Tank, Doc, and a few more—sit on the other end of the table. They used to be in council, so they're in church.

We all sit and listen as Flame goes over this month's gun run-up to Wincher. This month is Axel's turn to go. We take it in turns each month, ensuring one of us is left behind in case there's an emergency. If something were to happen to Axel, then I would take over the club; it's a system he lives by and a job I don't fucking want.

"Axel, Hawk, Gunner, and Buzz will be on bikes, while the prospects, Shane and Bill, will drive the truck. Slicer will drive until the end of town before turning back home." Flame finishes, and we all nod before Axel asks about each business.

Flame starts out,

"The garage is doing really well. We need to hire some more mechanics; work is piling up." Axel nods and says, "Set up wanted ads and see if any other brothers want extra cash."

Then he looks towards Slicer, who continues,
