I growl, yes, me, growl, like a dog, doing as Slicer asks, even though I want to laugh again, "Do you mind NOT touching my man?" I cock my hips, placing my hands on them, and raise a brow. Then I turn to the other woman and tilt my head at her. "Did you know my best friend Meghan is trained to shoot a gun, and right now, you'll be her target for touching her husband?" Then I look at the other woman who's looking at me with skepticism, and I narrow my eyes at her. You have three fucking seconds to move before I smash your face into the wall."
Her eyes widen at my cold voice before they scamper off, and I smile wide while the men chuckle before Travis puts his arm around my waist while rasping, "That's my girl," making my smile turn into a grin.
"So, this friend of yours, Meghan, was it the woman who just dropped you off? Because the back of her looked fine."
I snort at Slicer's question, although his eyes show something else. Maybe hope? I look at Travis as he shakes his head with a little bit of sorrow in his eyes.
Huh?
Sorrow?
What did I miss?
"No chance, brother; that's my girl's best friend, and she also has a four-year-old."
He says the last bit as a matter of fact, and I furrow my brows.
Slicer sighs at Travis' words, looking extremely irritated. "Damn it," he says, shaking his head before kissing my cheek. "It was lovely meeting you, darling; thanks for the help. Dag, I'll see you in church later. BYE ANNIE." He shouts the last bit before leaving the bakery, while Annalise shouts back, "BYE SLICER."
I grin, finally hearing her voice before I look at Travis with a raised brow, and he sighs, running a hand through his hair. "About five years ago, he met a woman named Meghan; he fell for her instantly, but she was gone the next morning. He spiraled after that, turning into the biggest man whore just so he could try to forget her, but it hasn't worked; she's all he sees and wants, and he hasn't stopped looking for her."
My eyes widen, and hope fills my chest; it sounds like Meghan's story.
I grip his arm. "Maybe she is the same, Meghan?"
He gives me a smile at my optimism and shakes his head. "He went back to her workplace as soon as he woke; apparently, she was only in town for a few days; she left that morning." I sigh. Damn it, Meghan stayed for a year before leaving. "It was worth mentioning, baby."
I nod because I know he's right.
I wrap my arms around his waist, placing my head on his chest over his heart, and smile as he wraps his arms around me tightly. We stand like this for a few minutes when the doors to the back open, and Annalise walks through them with a tray. I instantly move towards her, making Travis chuckle. When she hears him, she looks up, but her eyes come to me. She grins while tears fill them.
She drops the tray and rushes to me, and I hug her tightly and say, "You're ok." I rasp, feeling relieved.
I was so worried when she left the hospital.
She nods before pulling back and wiping her tears. "You saved me."
Her voice is raspy, but I smile and shrug. "I was just doing my job."
She shakes her head and says, "No, you were doing more than your job. You spent more time in my room than Logan; you went 110% into my care, and I can't thank you enough."
I smile wide as Travis wraps his arm around my waist from behind before leaning his chin on my shoulder. His woodsy scent fills me. "Told you, Precious. Your kindness and willingness to connect with the patient center them, and it is who you are."
Annalise nods while wiping her face, and I smile wide, leaning back against the man I know will consume me, and excitement fills me with the love we could have.
If only I could see the future and the heartache he would cause me.
But that's life, right?
Chapter 11
Dagger- 2 months later
Axel's just banged the gavel, ending church, and I sigh, getting up. We have a run in two weeks to Wincher, and it's my turn to go, which has come at a bad fucking time.
For the past week, Melanie has been off, really fucking off, and I don't know why.
Sighing again.
