I nod. "And so will you be."

She furrows her brows at me, but I just grin wider.

"I just spoke to Trav, and not only does he know Noah, but apparently so do I, and he is in his club."

Her eyes widen and hope glimmers through them before it diminishes. "But that doesn't mean it's my Noah."

I just grin wider. "His club is the only club that does the Wincher runs."

Tears well in her eyes as a sob breaks through before she grabs hold of me, hugging me tight while rasping, "But that woman?"

I pull back and hold onto her arms, "was lying; she was most likely one of the sweet butts, not wanting someone else coming into the club and taking the men they want. Trav had to go, but he will talk to me later and tell me which brother he is. When he does, I'll take a photo and send it to you to confirm."

She smiles wide, relief shining through her eyes before my pager goes off.

I squeezed her arm before hugging her. "Nine hours, Meg. Just nine hours, and you'll have your answers, and your girl will have her birthday wish." She nods, her eyes shining, and I run off to my next patient, smiling wide for my friend and her gorgeous little girl, who wants nothing more than to have her daddy in her life. I'm still smiling on cloud nine hours later, as my shift is nearly ending.

I have ten minutes left before I see my man and find out which brother is Lilah's dad for my friend.

My pager goes off, and I furrow my brows, seeing I'm being paged to triage and rush over there expecting an emergency. When I run into the room, I find it empty, and I feel a pit in my stomach. The dread feeling from a month prior comes back in full force when the door opens again, and Cassidy walks in. I swallowed hard, seeing a gun in her hand. This past month, she's become more and more aggressive. A shove here, a warning from her lover, her always glaring at me, trying to ruin my reputation within the hospital walls, but this, this is new. I've felt watched every day, and now it makes sense. The woman has gone insane; Trav barely fucking touched her once months ago, and this is what she's resorted to: fuck.

She points the gun at me, and my breathing picks up. "You think you can take my man and get away with it?"

I swallowed, "He was never your man, Cassidy. He never really wanted you; you know this."

She sneers at me, "I would have won him over, you stupid bitch; he is mine; I have had my eyes on him for years, fucking years, and you think you can come a long and take him; well, guess what? Your stupid bitch ass…"

She's cut off on her rant when the door opens, and fuck, Meghan walks in with some bits for the trolleys.

My breathing becomes harsher.

No, no, no, no. She's a mom, and her little girl needs her.

She looks up and gasps as Cassidy points the gun at her. "Well, look who's unlucky day it is. Move now over to the wall." Meghan is frozen, not moving, but soon jumps when Cassidy shouts, "NOW."

Meghan looks at me as tears fill her eyes, and she walks over to the other side of the room while Cassidy keeps the gun trained on her, completely forgetting about me. An idiotic idea comes to mind, and I swallow hard, looking into my friend's eyes, and I know I have to do this for Lilah. She sees the decision in my eyes, and she gasps, shaking her head before I mouth, 'Lilah,' making her tears fall fast down her cheeks. I rush forward toward a distracted Cassidy.

Meghan sobs as I tackle Cassidy to the ground. I hear Meghan scream for help before the alarm goes off while Cassidy grunts, and we fight for the gun in her hands. Her eyes are wild and crazy, like she's not even in there, as she grins at me, her finger on the trigger. I knock it out of her hands, and it goes flying across the room. She punches me hard in the face, splitting my lip, before going after the gun, and I scramble to follow her. She grabs hold of the gun, pointing it at me, and I shove into her, knocking her over while her head hits the corner of the desk in the process, knocking her out after the gun goes off.

Chapter 26

Dagger

I hang up the phone with my girl and shake my head, grinning, while Slicer walks over to me.

Fuck, I love hearing her voice.

"Get your loved-up ass on your bike, brother."

He snaps me out of my goofy state, and I chuckle, "Yeah, yeah."

I climb on before turning back to him and asking, "Do you know anyone who would mention to my old lady your birth name?"

He furrows his brows in confusion. "No, why?"

I just shrugged. "She was asking me if I knew a 'Noah' that does a club run to Wincher. I told her I do, and so does she, but I didn't get to tell her it was you before I had to hang up. She seemed really interested."

He furrows his brows some more, "strange."
