Pain like no other fills my body as her tear-filled eyes latch onto mine.

Please no.

Chapter 27

Melanie

Pain shoots through my chest as I look down.

Blood stains my navy blue nurse dress.

My legs start to get weak, and my breathing becomes more difficult. I begin to fall when someone roars out in pain before two strong arms go around me, carefully lying me down. I look up to see my man, my world, staring down at me with panic on his face. Our watery eyes connect as a sob leaves his throat. My tears start to fall.

"I-I'm s-s-sorry."

He sniffles and shakes his head as Doc skids beside me, with Meghan right after him.

He puts pressure on my chest while Meghan cries out.

"Why, why did you do that?"

My eyes feel heavy as I slur in response, "Be-because-cause, Lilah."

She lets out a sob while she connects a heart monitor to me.

I look back at Trav, his tears falling down his cheeks, "I-I l-love yo-you."

He lets out another sob before leaning down and kissing my lips gently. "Not as much as I love you, Precious."

I smile a little before closing my eyes.

I don't know how long I've slept, but when I wake up, I'm still on the floor, and the rooms full of colleagues with Doc are shouting orders.

"WE NEED MORE UNITS NOW."

He looks down at me, panic lacing his eyes. "You're going to get through this; you hear me."

I nod slowly before my eyes move to the other side of the room, and I panic, no longer seeing her.

I look back at Doc.

"Cas-Cas."

Someone squeezes my hand, and I turn to see Trav, his cheeks full of tears. "She's alive, baby."

I breathe a sigh of relief before I struggle to catch my next breath.

My eyes get heavy again, and Trav squeezes my hand tighter. "Don't close your eyes, Precious; stay with us; stay with me."

I can't breathe properly; my body's gone numb, and a tear falls down the side of my cheek.

I rasp on my last breath before everything goes black.

"I love you."
