OK, I can do this; just don't fricking wave like an idiot this time.

With a nod, I head out of my exam room towards the reception area, where Lucy is currently salivating at the God of a man. Short black hair but just long enough to style, piercing gray eyes, a strong jawline with a lip ring in his plump lips, and a body made for sin full of muscles—shit. He's wearing a tight black v-neck t-shirt with black jeans and biker boots with his cut on. I think that's what Leah called it, and, oh my god, does he look good?

His neck is full of tattoos, symbols, and crosses, with a patch on his left side clear. I notice Diamond in his arms while he talks to Lucy, giving her a flirty smile that makes my stomach drop. She leans forward and whispers something in his ear, making him grin at her before nodding. She gets her phone out, and I sigh.

See, so out of my league; I knew it was too good to be true.

I shake my head and quickly send a discreet picture to my Momma; otherwise, she'll nag all day before I put my professional mask on. He doesn'tneed to see how devastated I am by him flirting with someone else, who also looks like a fricking model with her bright blonde hair with brown highlights and bright blue eyes.

I clear my throat and head around the receptionist's desk, ignoring the gorgeous man who consumes me, making my body light up, and going straight to Diamond in his arms. She yips and does a little bark when she sees me, her tongue hanging out, and I grin while feeling Ink's intense eyes on me, but again, I ignore him and take the German shepherd dog from his arms. "Well, hello there, Diamond. How's my favorite client? Are you ready for your six-month health check?"

I talk in a baby voice, making Lucy send me a dirty look, but I ignore her and the guy while walking back to my room. I notice Sarah on the way out, and she grins wide, nodding her head, making me smile back, feeling proud of myself.

As soon as I get into the room, I start my routine check on Diamond, ignoring the hunk of a man who decided to follow me into the room. I can feel his eyes on me and see from my side eye that he's leaning against the door with his arms crossed over his chest.

"OK, gorgeous girl, let's get started, shall we?"

She yips and licks my chin, making me giggle, and I hear Ink move a little, but I still ignore him.

I check Diamond's eyes, paws, and weight before rubbing behind her ears, making her lick me again. I grin before I get her injections. "OK, Diamond, you won't feel a thing."

I rub the back of her head before scrunching up her neck fat, and I inject her immunizations. She doesn't feel a thing; she doesn't even flinch because she's too busy trying to lick me. I smile as I rub the area before grabbing her a treat, which she takes instantly, making me giggle.

I look up at Ink for the first time to see his intense stare at me, and I clear my throat before grabbing her book and signing it. "OK, she's all healthy. Her weight is perfect, so Melanie is doing great with her. If you could make another appointment for 6 months for her one-year check, you should be good to go." He nods before tilting his head as I help the little miss off my table.

"one drink."

Is the first thing he says to me, making my heart stop.

Chapter 5

Ink

"One date"

I rasp, and I watch her freeze, and I try not to grin.

I know she wants me, that she feels this connection. I knew she could feel my intense gaze on her while she was checking Diamond over; it's like we're in tune and we barely know each other, and I can tell you, watching her do her job and focusing on the animal was amazing. She never once took her attention off of Diamond. The only reason I knew she knew I was staring at her was because I saw the shake in her hand and heard the tremor in her voice.

She's just as affected by me as I am by her.

She clears her throat before shaking her head and saying, "Sorry, but I'm still seeing someone."

Her voice shakes a little, and I tilt my head. Is she actually seeing someone, though? Because her voice may be saying one thing, but her tone is telling me it's not entirely true, plus she won't look me in the eye. Dagger told me to persevere, and that's what I will do. I push off the door and stalk towards her before she moves, making her put the table between us.

I smirk while Diamond runs around us. Sophie looks down, watching the dog, and grins wide, giggling a little.

Fuck me if that's not the best sound in the world.

Just as I'm about to open my mouth, the door opens, and a man, roughly 5 "8 with his ginger hair neatly placed back with a comb-over, wearing a fucking suit, waltzes in. He rounds the table and kisses Sophie's head like she's his little sister, making me raise a brow at them; surely this is not her boyfriend.

She clears her throat as Diamond, the little traitor, goes to say hello.

"Todd, this is Ink, one of the brothers from the MC. Uh, Ink, this is my boyfriend, Todd."

She widens her eyes when she says my name, making me furrow my brows in confusion while the douche turns and grins wide at me. He puts his hand out, and I shake it because my mom raised me right…ish, "It's good to meet you, my man."

I clear my throat and look at him funny while Sophie holds in a snort. The guy, Todd, looks down and shakes his head while nudging Sophie, making me swallow my growl.
