A few days later, I'm at Momma's with Todd, looking over some suits for his wedding while Momma's in bed. She's having a bad day today, so instead of going out to look at suits, we decided to come here instead and look online because Leah is at college, and I've got to admit I love Todd for agreeing to do it this way.
"So, how are you and the Greek god?"
I snorted at Jackson's nickname by him and Alex, "Better, he's done as he said, took me out on his bike, and made me dinner yesterday. Tonight, we're going to the movies, so he's trying."
He nods, "but you still feel like he's going to hurt you."
I give him a sad smile. "While he still thinks I'm a cheat, I think there's always going to be doubt. I mean, I met Mel yesterday, his brother's woman, and their new puppy, Bella, and she had no idea who I was. We've been together for over a month, and she didn't even know I was his girlfriend."
Todd sighs and shakes his head. "Did you tell her?"
I just huffed, "Yeah, but accidentally. He told me Dagger knew, so I automatically thought she did, and when she looked at me in shock, I swearI felt a part of my heartbreak. I'm falling for him, Todd, and he's treating me like a bed buddy. I can't even tell him about you because, as soon as I try, he shuts me down."
Todd nods and goes to say something when we hear a wail from my Momma's room, and my eyes start to well, making him wrap his arm around me, holding me tightly to him.
"She'll get through this, Soph; you both will."
I just shake my head and say, "It's been three years, and she's treating it as if she lost him yesterday. The only time she has it together is when she works.
He nods. "He was her soul mate, just like Alex is mine and Ink is yours. I know you're falling in love with him, and I know you're scared because he's not as open as you'd wish, but give him time and your momma time, and everything will fall into place."
I nod, placing my head against his shoulder, as we hear my mother continue to cry out for my daddy, making my tears fall.
It's just a shame Todd's words hold no truth, and we didn't realize it until it was too late.
Chapter 11
Ink – One Month Later
I grin when I see Bella jump around Sophie's table. I promised Mel I'd bring her to the vet today to see my girl before I took her back to Mel's flat. This past month hasn't been easy. I've been ignoring my dad and especially my mother since the disastrous dinner, and my girl has kept me at arm's length despite me being with her every single night, telling her all about my fuckups growing up. I know she thinks she's just my fuck buddy, when really she's my whole fucking world.
I love her; with everything that I am, she fucking owns me. I just need her to understand that.
When she still doesn't look up from Bella since I walked in here, I sigh, having enough, before I walk around the table, putting my arms around her waist, my head on her shoulder, and looking at Bella too. "So what's the verdict, Doc? Do we need to change her diet?"
The little munchkin has gained some weight this past month, and Mel was concerned.
I feel her grin from where my face touches hers before she shakes her head.
"Nope, she's perfect."
I grin at her words when there's a knock at the door, causing Bella to bark while Soph giggles, "Come in," before the receptionist, Lucy, enters. I scowl while Soph tries to get out of my hold like I'd allow her to.
I squeeze her tighter, and Lucy narrows her eyes.
"Seriously? You're having a hook-up when you're supposed to be working; Sarah will fire you over this."
I growl, but Soph just chuckles. "Yeah, fire me; I'm the most hard-working one here, and I know you're not blind, Lucy; you can see Bella right here on my table. Now, is there a reason why you knocked?"
I smirk at my girl's snarky attitude while Lucy narrows her eyes.
"Yeah, actually, I wanted to discuss with Ink the tattoo we discussed a few months ago. I tried calling you, baby, but you didn't answer to reschedule after I showed up at your shop and you were busy."
I feel Sophie tense, and I narrow my eyes, holding her even tighter. "First of all, I'm not your baby; secondly, you never called because I gave you a false number, which you then decided to show up in a fucking coat and nothing else; we banned you from the premises; and thirdly, don't talk to my woman like she's some kind of fucking whore!"
Sophie turns her head towards me in shock, and I furrow my brows at her until I realize this is the first time I've actually confirmed our relationship with anyone other than the selective few. Fuck, I'm a shitty boyfriend.
Sighing, I lean forward and kiss her lips gently while Lucy huffs and storms out of the room before I break the kiss and run my nose along hers. She smiles a watery smile at me, and I shake my head at my stupidity.
