I raise my head.

Anger burns through me like fire, and I stand straighter before I cross my arms over my chest. "You are not welcome here. Leave before I call the Sheriff."

She just smirked, "When Phoebe told me all about the woman my boy was seeing, a whore no less, I had to come down here." I snort at her words, but she continues, "You need to stay away from my son, or else."

I just smirked at her and said, "That's funny because I'm pretty sure it's your son who keeps pursuing me, and it's also your son who wants nothing to do with the bitch who had his big brother molested. Now do me a favor and get the fuck out of my office and out of this practice before I call the Sheriff. You know Daggers and Jackson's Uncle, who I'm pretty sure is still unaware of your torture of his nephew."

Her eyes narrow, and a little bit of panic enters them for a split second before she becomes cocky. "He would never believe you, and my man ensured I wasn't punished for my actions. Daggers, a bastard child who didn't deserve the VP patch or the room I gave."

I just snorted at her, "And you're the psychotic bitch who needs to be tranquilized; now leave before I follow through with my threat. Pedophiles aren't welcome around me, and as for the Sheriff believing you over me," I tilt my head. "My father was a much-beloved deputy before he passed; I somehow doubt he'd believe a bitch over me, and last time I checked, your man ditched your ass.

NOW LEAVE."

I shout the last bit, making Sarah rush in; she stiffens when she sees the bitch monster, obviously recognizing her.

"Now, Leslie, I don't know who let you in here, but I suggest you leave now. Cammy ensured I knew all of your misgivings, and I'm two seconds away from stabbing you in the gut."

I smile as Leslie starts to breathe faster. She rushes past us but not without knocking into me, causing Sarah to grab my arm as Leslie rasps, "This isn't fucking over; he's my son; you're not having him." She then rushes out, and I take a deep breath before Sarah gets her phone out, but I stop her, making her look at me with a furrowed look.

"Only tell your friend Cammy, who I believe is Axel's mom. Mel finally woke; Dagger and Jackson don't need this stress on top of the she-bitch."

Sarah curses but nods, doing as I asked. I'll inform Jackson another time about his mother's threats.

Well, I had intended to until my whole world got torn apart.

The next day, I'm leaving work after yet again seeing Mr. Douglas, but now with a flipping cat. How he manages to get these animals is a mystery; he shouldn't be allowed near a living creature. And to make it worse, he named the tabby cat fluffkins, fluffkins!!

This man is pure evil; I swear he's evil.

I'm brought out of my head when I hear Leah speak from near my Jeep, making me shoot my head up.

"Who pissed you off?"

She looks scared, sorry, and extremely tired, and I clear my throat. Guilt etches through me. I haven't made an effort to contact her in two months. Yes, she hurt me going behind my back, but she knows me best; she knew I needed to confront him to move forward, and now—now—I may have destroyed our friendship.

I clear my throat again. "Mr. Douglas somehow managed to get a cat after the dog was taken off him. He overfed the poor thing with raw chicken." Her eyes widen, and I nod. "He named it Fluffkins. I think, for me, that's got to be the worst part about this right now—it's a short-haired ginger tabby cat."

She blinks again: "The man is pure evil."

I nod before we both laugh, which I didn't think was possible. I don't mean because it's with Leah; I mean because today's my father's fourth death anniversary, which means Momma needs me.

Leah clears her throat, trying to calm down. "I know I messed up. I should have told you to speak to him instead of blindsiding you. I thought I was doing the right thing when really I was betraying you because I couldn't look past my own feelings for Gunner after he begged me to keep you at the bar." I went to butt in because, let's face it, she was helping me. I was just too scared to speak to her, but sobs wracked her body, and concern pulled through me. "I am sorry, I'm so sorry, but I-I, I need my friend Soph..."

I'm near her instantly, taking her tightly into my arms.

"What's happened?"

See, that's the thing about us. Yes, she fucked up, and so did I, but she's still my best friend, my sister from another mister.

She sobs into my neck and says, "I-I quit my job at-at the b-bar today." I furrow my brows and pull her back, wiping under her cheeks for her as she sniffles, "Gunner and I—we—slept together months ago—and he-he doesn't r-remember, he-he went straight back-back to Cara, and now-now I'm—I'm preg-pregnant." My eyes widen in shock, "six-sixteen weeks."

Her sobs come out again, and I hold her close to me, telling her it's going to be OK, but she just shakes her head. "I-I overheard her, she-she said to another w-waitress that he-he's finally asked her o-out on a-a date, yet last month he-he had a go at me for seeing some-someone once."

I breathe deeply. "I'm going to fucking kill him."

She chuckles, knowing I never swear unless I'm pissed.

She wipes her cheeks. "I plan to tell him t-tomorrow. When I quit last night after he returned from his office with her and another waitress, all disheveled, and I walked out, he didn't believe me, so I'm putting it in writing."
