I rub my ear. I haven’t planned that far ahead. We were distracted when I sensed my mate. Now, we should probably get back to the trading route. “Do we have another trade ready for us?”

“Well, we have prospects. There is a group of zalcors looking to go to somewhere within the Empire.”

I lift an eyebrow. “As a rule, we don’t try to anger those Empire’s minions.”

The Empire gives us business too, not that I love to take their money. I like money, but I would rather take those from better sources. I only do what doesn’t feel like I’m selling my soul.

Onner lets out a soft sigh. “I know, but they pay handsomely.”

“Those are zalcors.”

Zalcors are the ones that show up and disappear whenever they want to. They are strong and they fight the Empire, which I respect. But when it comes to having close contact with them...

Onner sighs. “The risk is a bit too high, I suppose.”

“Why do they want help? I suppose they can do that themselves and they would rather keep their trail to themselves.”

If it is the zalcors looking for someone else to take the heat, I’m not interested. I continue, “We transport stuff for creatures, not taking risks for them and dying for them.”

Onner shrugs. “We won’t have to get into the Empire’s region. They said they want stuff delivered to a planet within the Alliance and shouldn’t make us suspicious.”

I shake my head. “No, I’m not interested. We aren’t that short of cash.”

Onner nods. “I suppose. But we still need a destination.”

Except I don’t want to care about that at this moment. All I want is to enjoy my mate.

“Let’s get to a space station and we will celebrate.”

“Celebrate what?”

I don’t think we need those details. “Something. Just figure it out.”

I stand. “I think you can plan for us. I’m busy.”

“But captain!” Onner follows me even though I head towards the door with big stride, clearly having no intention of staying.

When the door closed behind me, Onner is still there. I turn around. “What’s the issue?”

He halts and shakes his head. “Nothing much. Just... want to check in with the human you got.”

I scowl. “What’s wrong?”

“What are you going to do with her?”

“She is mine now.”

“So... she triggered the mate bond?”

“I think so.” I suck in a breath while I say the words. If we aren’t in the corridor on our own with no one around, I’m not going to say that. Somehow, it feels weird to let someone else peek at my decision.

“She’s a human.”

“Yes, but I feel it in my blood. Are you here to argue with me?” I hiss and flex my body. If Onner wants to fight me for her, he can try, but he won’t get her.

There is a fire inside me, that’s something I’ve never felt before too. It is different from how Zoe makes me feel. This fire is a lot stronger and it burns my stomach so hard that I want to punch Onner.

Onner shakes his head. “Not at all, Captain. Has she accepted the mate bond?”
