Page 28 of Baiting the Alien

He swallows. “I’m a perfectly good kuqnil.”

That’s not an indication or describer of whether he is a rule follower or not, which means he probably did break some rules because of me.

I shrug. “It’s okay, I won’t tell anyone.”

“Good.” He gives me a hand and helps me off the bed. “You are going to like it there. You can try new food too.”

My stomach rambles. Food sounds like a good idea.

I hold Iechon’s hand tightly. His large hand comforts me. We are in a space station now. It looks like an indoor stadium with a tall ceiling. There are metal pillars going across the ceiling, keeping the structure in place.

I suck in a deep breath. The air is cool and dry, but perfectly fine to breathe in.

Around me, there are aliens of all species and all colors. Most of them are larger than me. Iechon seems to fit better among the other aliens than me. My heart hammers in my chest and my hand is sweating.

As we walk down the aisles, we go past stalls upon stalls selling strange things. The beings around me are talking in languages I don’t understand. All of them combined. This is a loud place with a lot of different noises. I’m so tiny here that it isn’t even funny.

There are occasional gazes on me. Maybe they don’t always see humans walking among them.

Iechon squeezes my hand. “Are you fine?”

“Is the air better up there?”

He chuckles. “You look nervous. Don’t worry. Most of them are nice beings and won’t hurt you. Humans are smaller compared to other species, at least that’s usually the case, not to say that there aren’t smaller species.”

I hold on to the cape. It feels a bit safer when I’m in trousers now. These are long for me, so I have to wrap the end in order to fit without the risk of falling. The cape covers most of my body, so I can only hope the gazes on me aren’t due to my fashion taste, or the lack thereof.

Iechon is in his trousers and cape. Under the cape, he is wearing a strip of leather that goes diagonally across him, from shoulder to waist. It acts as another pocket for him, and he has a gun clipped onto that. Other than his trousers, he also has his belt on. He has yet another gun with him. There are a few more devices hanging on his belt, which may also be weapons.

He gets me nervous when he finds the need to bring all those with him. I’ve asked, but he said the space station is safe.

I take my eyes away from his belt. I should be looking at new things, not him. “I still think I may be dreaming, even though I know I’m not.”

He smiles. “You are so cute. I like that about you.”

“What are we doing here? Shopping?”

“Yes, I don’t know whether there will be a store that sells clothes that will fit you better. And we can look for those with cartoon lizards.”

I roll my eyes. “It doesn’t matter whether we find dinosaurs on those. I find those cute and therefore bought those.”

“Oh, I see. I don’t understand why you like those. Thought it is some type of symbol, maybe those symbolize luck.”

Given how dinosaurs are extinct, not sure how lucky those are. “Not really. They are just interesting. Those are dinosaurs, so not exactly lizards. They don’t exist on Earth now.”

He blinks. “Oh, I see. I think I know dinosaurs. Onner sometimes talks about those human movies with dinosaurs.”

“You’ve never watched one?”

He shakes his head. “No, I’m more interested in seeking more business, not watching movies.”

That doesn’t sound very interesting, but maybe I can get him to watch something with me and we can sip beer together. He is the one saying that he wants to learn more about humans.

I stop at a stall which is hosted by a large bolder man. He is gray and his body is made up of large pieces of rock. He gives us a nod but says nothing.

On the table, there are a lot of baskets with rocks. Those are cut into cubes with different minerals there.

Iechon squeezes my hand. “I don’t think you want one.”
