I almost jump, until I remember that’s Iechon. “You scared me.”

“Oh... I’m sorry. I just want to make sure you are doing fine.” Iechon squeezes my hand with a deep frown.

“I think I’m doing fine. You are here with me, so I think I’m fine.”

“Really?” His frown deepens, and he doesn’t seem to be happy with my answer. “Are you sure? You said I scared you.”

I shake my head. “it’s just how I don’t seem to remember what happened. It feels like that happened a lot recently. I’m supposed to be on vacation, but everything happened and it is more tiring than when I was at work.”

I push against the bed to sit up. My arms are sore, but I’m not hurting. Iechon wraps his arms around me, steadying me and helping me sit up when my muscles are all cramped. “What happened?”

“That’s what I’m going to ask too. What happened? When I finished the call, I couldn’t find you in the nearby aisles. So I searched further away. Found those two blue things walking funny. Then I figured they were trying to kidnap you. I fought them and saved you. The Patrol arrived and captured those blue beings.”

I shiver when the memory swarms back. Iechon kisses me, holding me with his comforting arms. “Don’t leave me.”

The pull in my chest is here again. He holds me and rests his forehead on mine. “I won’t. I thought you wanted to leave me. But I’m glad I didn’t give up and left the shop just like that. I’m so sorry.”

I sniff when tears swell inside me. I could have ended up kidnapped by those beings and sold somewhere dangerous. My luck has been wonky recently and I need a fix and I need that quickly.

Iechon sits on the bed and wraps my body in his. “I will make sure nothing like that happens again. I’m so sorry I didn’t take good care of you. I should be more aware of how dangerous it can be in the space station.”

“That’s why you brought two guns and probably some more weapons.” I think we are back on the spaceship now. After what happened, he probably won’t want to stay there for long.

He sighs. “Yes, that is a strange place. No one really rules over there, so everyone fends for themselves. Usually, nothing will happen when everyone assumes each other is geared. But maybe you look harmless enough that they will bet their luck on you.”

He continues, “I’m such a bad mate and a bad kuqnil.”

I squeeze his hand. “No, stop saying that. You aren’t. You’ve tried your best, and you didn’t want that to happen either. I’m safe. All is fine.”

“But...”

“No buts. You’ve tried your best.” My heart is still racing at the memory, but it will be wrong to blame Iechon.

“You should be mad at me.”

“I’m not. Would you rather I be mad at you?”

He remains quiet. I bite my tongue to keep quiet when he thinks over whatever he finds important. I don’t want him to feel bad about that, especially when he already saved me and I’m safe.

He sighs, his hot breath tickles me. “No, I don’t want you to be mad at me or upset. But... Maybe you are right. I’ve tried my best to right the situation.”

“And you’ve done amazing.”

He pats my stomach, but he falls quiet again. I take the moment to gather my thoughts and enjoy his presence. Maybe being an alien’s mate isn’t that bad. There are dangers, but he will try his best to save me. If I’m with a man, I don’t know whether he can smack two huge blue males to get me out of there alive.

I snuggle to him. “That’s a scary place.”

“You will get used to that. Not getting attacked, but get used to fighting for yourself.”

I let out a sigh. “I’m used to fighting for other’s life, but when it comes to my own, I don’t have a lot of experience.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, before you grab me off the beach, I used to save lives as a paramedic.”

“So, you are good at putting limbs together?”

“Well...” I laugh. He is cute in some way. “Not like that, but rush them into the hospitals most of the time. And to try my best to keep them alive on the way.”
