Chapter 1

Yuhan

Isuckinabreath when the traffic is at a standstill. This is getting stupider by the minute. Why must I be in town when there’s a major holiday?

I seldom even go to Bhocith, but this time...

I’ve been warned to have extra patience as I travel. My boss knows me, but he suggested I take public transport. I have no idea whether he secretly hates me or what.

Around me is a crowd of creatures. Most are humans. I understand a lot of humans live in this part of Bhocith, but this is getting a bit too much. Every. Single. One. Of. Them.

I’m almost the only non-human being here. The other is a nekrozzro male stuck on the other side of the train. I’m a nogzul, but the important thing is how that the nekrozzro and I are taller than most, if not all, of the humans, making it easy for us to exchange a gaze.

That is a young male nekrozzro, and he gives me a weak smile. I bet it’s no better for him on that side of the train.

There is the smell of cake and roasted birds in the air. I suspect quite a few humans have some form of that roasted bird with them.

I don’t understand the desire to have a roasted bird with rough flesh that isn’t even tasty. The taste is from the sauce, so... what’s the point?

Before I arrived here, I was told that this Thanksgiving thing is big for humans, and a time for them to gather with their families.

But that doesn’t mean they have to stuff all the transport pathways. And with all these roasted birds... Do none of them enjoy stillness and solitude?

I suck in a breath, trying my best to keep it together. I can survive the bombarding smell of stupid holiday food for another moment. I’m arriving at the station soon.

“Hey, sir.”

I look at the older human female who has gray hair and I nod. “Me?”

“Yes, I know it is crowded, but will you mind if you can put your tail slightly to the side so I can keep my turkey safe? The kids love it, and—“

“Sure.” I move my tail, almost slapping another human male in the process. He hurries to duck away while I barely manage to stop my tail.

He doesn’t say much about it. Maybe he also heard what the older human female said and figured it wasn’t worth the hassle.

Stupid crowded train.

I look away before the older female keeps talking to me. I don’t mean to be mean to the elderly, but I’m not in the mood to talk to anyone. Especially not when she is one of the culprits with a stupid roasted bird.

When the train arrives at the next station, even before the door opens, the beings near me start crowding at the door.

What the hell is wrong with them?

The door is still closed and there’s no way they can get out of here. I know no one wants to stay here when it is filled to the brim with the smell of roasted birds mixed with sweaty beings, but they aren’t going to get out just like that.

I silently let out a groan before I can cause anything. These are all humans and I can beat every single one of them, so I don’t mind if someone picks a fight. But if I can help it, I don’t need any of that.

I refuse to move while the humans try to sneak around me. Patience is a fucking virtue these beings don’t have.

Ding dong.

The door of the train opens and creatures hurry out of the door as if it will close in a second.

Holly crap!

Is this the first time these beings board a train?

Perhaps they are hurrying to get home to enjoy their stupid holiday, but there isn’t a reason to—
