Silvia’s grandma grins at us. “See, they’re perfect together.”

Oh...

Silvia groans. “Come on, Grandma, stop it.”

Grandma chuckles, and the family starts walking again. She seems to be really happy about Sylvia and me dating each other. But both of us know that it won’t last.

I remember the pumpkin pie again, alongside all the other food Grandma served me. She really loves Silvia and wants her to have the best. My heart skips a beat and it aches even more than before.

What if…?

I shake my head. That’s not how it’s supposed to be. More importantly, what’s on Sylvia’s mind? She’s the one I’m considering. Deep inside, it feels like I should ask her to be my mate. There’s a tingle in my tail again, just like every other time I entertained that possibility.

I softly sigh, with a weight building in my chest. I glance at Silvia when I feel her gaze on me. She has a light frown on her face. She blinks when our gazes match. Her mouth opens and closes. She says nothing and looks away.

Maybe she’s thinking about that, too. I feel bad for probably hurting the feelings of other, even though that’s not my fault.

My deal with Silvia doesn’t include keeping everyone else’s feelings intact. But...

Maybe I should have left earlier in the day when she asked. Then I wouldn’t have gotten myself deeper into trouble. Not because of the shopping bags, but... from something a lot heavier than that.

Chapter 10

Silvia

Finally,we’redonewithshopping and at home again. I collapse on the couch with sore arms and legs. They already developed something that does the walking around so beings don’t have to do that while shopping. But my family loves to actually go to shops instead of shopping via the auto system. Most of the best deals are in person, but still...

Yuhan is helping with putting the groceries into the cupboards. He is tall, which makes him the perfect being to do that. His tail sways from side to side. Maybe that means he’s in a good mood.

I pull out my phone. Maybe there’s a site that explains how a nogzul’s tail is affected by their mood. I turn on the screen. All I can focus on is the time and date on the screen, so much so that I can’t make myself look at anything else.

I glance at Yuhan and the rest of my family. They are busy putting away the newly purchased items, and it seems like Yuhan is getting along with them well.

He’s a lot gentler than I expected. Sometimes, rich beings are mean and won’t talk to you. But he helped me in the restaurant. I grimace. That was so embarrassing, though.

There was probably no need for him to accept my offer. He is rich, and he could have figured out where to stay for the night. But somehow...

“Hey!”

Oh! I jump and almost drop my phone on my face. I sit up to see Yuhan watching me with his arms folded.

He clears his throat with a deep frown on his face. “I suppose... It’s time for me to leave.”

My heart skips a beat. This was part of our agreement, but I don’t want him to leave.

He looks to the rest of the family, who are getting ready to prepare lunch. “It was nice to stay here with you. I’ve never been to a Thanksgiving before, so this was new.” He lowers his voice. “I... I think I will miss you, even though...”

We’re faking it.

I blink and try to figure out whether he means it. He could be saying this just so that even if the family hears us, they won’t see through us.

I go to the shopping bag with the hat grandma picked for him. “Are you going to take this with you?”

He grimaces, which doesn’t look fake. He wraps his arms around me, pulling me so close to his chest that he chokes me with his scent. “Silvia, I—“

My brother whistles and Yuhan flinches. My stupid brother chuckles. “Get a room.”

There is a faint shade of pink on Yuhan’s face. Given that he is a gray nogzul, he must be blushing hard.
