He lets go of me and takes the hat. “I’ll bring it with me. I...”

“I’ll bring you to the station.”

“Sure.”

I hurry into my room, closing the door behind me as if I’m going to get ready to go. In fact, there’s nothing to bring when it is only going to be a short walk to the station. Then I’ll have to bid him goodbye. Yuhan doesn’t even live on this planet... There’s little to no chance for me to meet him again.

There are tinkles on my skin, and an urge in me shakes me. I should tell him to stay. Or... maybe... I have no idea. What will happen if we are actually dating?

Maybe he has been faking the care and everything. The sex we had could have been just a result of convenience, when we were together on the bed anyway. It doesn’t have to mean anything.

I gasp with my back against the door. If I stay in the room forever, will he stay? But I won’t get to see him.

I don’t understand why I care about him this much. He’s just a stranger who I ran into at the hotel that fired me. I let him stay for a night, but somehow it feels like he’s taking a piece of me with him.

“Silvia...” Yuhan’s voice comes from the door, muffled.

Maybe he doesn’t want to keep waiting, and he wants to leave at once. He already delayed his departure, probably also because of our deal.

Why would someone like him care about me, anyway?

I open the door again, taking a deep breath to steady myself. “I’m good to go now.”

He eyes me up and down, seemingly trying to figure out what took me that long inside the room. Before he can say anything, I head to the door.

“Mom, I’m going to the station with Yuhan.” I reach for the door after I put on my shoes, not planning to delay it anymore.

“Oh, you aren’t staying for lunch and dinner?” Grandma comes over, and Yuhan stops for her.

Fuck... This is going to be ugly when I have to tell them that Yuhan and I broke up.

Yuhan gives my grandma a smile. “Thank you for all the amazing food. It was a great Thanksgiving Day.”

She sighs. “You have to be back and get ready for work again?”

He nods. “Yes, I wish I could stay. Maybe next time.”

I almost want to stomp on Yuhan’s feet. He’s going to make it even worse for Grandma. She really likes him for some reason. I know it’s part of the pretense, but...

Fuck...

What have I done?

Grandma spreads her arms at Yuhan. He leans over to give her a hug. There are tears swelling in her eyes and it pains me. “I’m so glad Silvia is with you now. You’re such a great male who will take good care of her. She is often forgetful and messy, but... I’m so happy. She should have introduced you to us long ago.”

“Grandma...” I hold Yuhan’s arm and pull him away from Grandma. “We really have to go now. You’re making it hard for him.”

“Am I?” Grandma sighs. “Okay, until next time.”

I open the door and get us out of the apartment. When the door closes, it feels like I can finally breathe. I hate how I’m lying to everyone, but I’m too far gone to admit it to them.

Yuhan follows me to the lift area while I bite the inside of my cheek, trying my best not to say anything until we are far enough from home.

We take the lift. Yuhan seems to be avoiding my gaze. Maybe he knows what is happening already.

When we are out in the street, right at the parking lot of spaceships, I turn around at him.

“How can you do that to Grandma?”
