I groan when someone pushes my tail. I spin around and am about to punch someone in the face when the older human female is a few steps away from me, stumbling to hold her roasted bird as the flood of beings rush by her.

I run over there, pushing two others to the side. They growl at me, but none take further action when they know they won’t win against me.

The female trips on someone’s shoe. I grab the box of her roasted bird with my tail while I grab the female’s shoulders.

She manages to stand when the door buzzes, getting ready for beings to board the train. She is shaky. Maybe she’s still trying to regain balance.

I glance at the other side of the door. There are fewer creatures looking to get in than the ones trying to get out, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be safe.

I don’t think it’s polite for me to lift the older female, but there is a seat to the side and she really should put herself on that and stop stumbling.

Before she can complain, I nudge and half drag her over there, sitting her down.

I lower the box for her, putting it onto her lap. “And here is your bird.”

“Oh!” She holds the handle at once with a wide grin. “You are such a kind and nice male. Thank you. I wish you all the best and a happy Thanksgiving.”

“Thank you. Same for you.”

I silently let out a sigh. I’m not in the mood for the holiday, but at least this isn’t that bad.

I straighten when more beings board the train. Before the older female can talk to me again, I move to the side, mixing myself into the crowd.

Soon, unless the female plans to shout at the top of her lungs, she won’t be able to spot me or talk to me.

The train hums as it picks up speed again, leaving the station and getting me closer to my destination. The crowd is a bit too much for me, so much so...

When can I leave this stupid planet?

Chapter 2

Silvia

“HowmanytimesdoI have to tell you? All the receipts are here in the blue box, not the green one. And do you even remember to greet the customer before you take their order?”

My manager scowls as she shouts at me. Sometimes, working for other humans isn’t such smooth sailing either. My family is probably the only one that thinks otherwise.

I silently cursed myself for thinking the bonus for working on the busiest shift was worth this hassle. But part of me doesn’t have the luxury to pick and choose.

There’s cheerful music in the restaurant, but I doubt that will hide how I’m getting chewed out.

My manager is using a voice that is loud enough to shake me to my core, but not enough that the whole restaurant will hear her. We are a high-class restaurant inside a hotel, after all, so... shouting at an employee for everyone to hear won’t help their image.

I nod. “I’m so sorry about the receipts. I’ll do better.”

She sighs and tucks a loose strand of hair behind her ear, making a half-assed effort to fix the rest of her hair. “Fine, now get out and work. The orders are already piling up and dissatisfied customers aren’t going to leave you a tip.”

“Sure!” I hurry to grab the plates before it is too late and she continues to bark at me.

I know I’m not the perfect employee, but I’m good enough for the job. I pick up the plates and get to the floor. Where is Table thirteen again?

Okay, I can figure it out. The customer probably won’t find out this is my first week and they aren’t going to figure out that their meal is on the table a minute later than we expected.

Truth be told, my stupid manager is the reason for the delay, not me.

Before she can chase after me and shout about how I still haven’t memorized all the tables, I start off walking to where the table should be.

“Here is your meal. Enjoy your night.”
