Ah... I’ll be the one who can forget about everything and call it a day, just like that. But for her, she is going to get the blowback from announcing how she and I broke up.

We can never be together.

But...

There is a stirring in my stomach. The ride is a lot more unsettling than I remembered it to be. There aren’t as many beings around, but it is even more stifling and suffocating.

The train stops and the door opens. A few board the train and find their seats.

No one sits next to us. Maybe it doesn’t look comfortable to be around us. I think I hide my emotions well from years of experience in the trading world, but Silvia...

I take a deep breath, trying to pull my mind off her. There are tingles in my tail, which I try to avoid and I fight to stop it from wriggling. It’s so tempting to wrap my tail around her. I still remember how she felt under my body.

Fuck... I’m supposed to stop thinking about her, not think even harder.

The train starts again, and we are in the tunnel for this part. It’s dark through the window with nothing interesting to look at. It’s so dark outside that there’s a reflection of us from the window.

Silvia is still quiet, her face unreadable.

I probably shouldn’t, but I hold her hand.

She flinches for a second. I fully expected her to shake me off. Who am I to her, anyway? Our deal should be over already, but somehow...

She doesn’t have to be here with me. There was no need for her to come with me all the way onto the train. She didn’t even need to show me the way to the station. It wasn’t that hard to figure out where it was.

Maybe she also wanted to spend more time with me.

I squeeze her hand, and she squeezes me back. There are sparks between us, which I hope she can feel, too. But she doesn’t show anything on her face, so maybe she doesn’t.

It takes another moment of silence between us before she clears her throat. “I mean... You’re leaving this planet soon.”

“Yes, I suppose so.”

“So... Time to head back to the office once the weekend is over.”

“Yes, that’s my job. I do that pretty well.”

“You must be someone important in your company. And it’s probably a big company.”

Maybe she’s referring to how I would have stayed in that luxurious hotel if those stupid beings hadn’t messed up my booking.

I shrug. “I hold a management position and am in charge of quite many of the negotiations. I won’t say that I’m that important, though. The company likes to book things like that. Those are the times they act as if the budget doesn’t exist.”

She gives a wry smile and I lift my brows in question. It’s just a job.

She says, “It will be interesting if I get to stay in a hotel like that. I worked there and saw the rooms, but that’s different from staying there as a guest.”

“It’s just a bed to spend the night on.”

She rolls her eyes. “You are such a party-pooper, like I said.”

But it really is just a bed. There may be decorations and shiny displays, but functionally, it’s just that, a place to spend the night in.”

My heart flutters when a thought runs through my mind. “I could have shown you the room and you could have stayed there with me.”

She lets out a soft chuckle, as if she doesn’t believe me. I snarl. But as we both stare at our reflection in the window instead of looking at each other, my snarl doesn’t look as strong as it should be.

She rolls her eyes. “We wouldn’t have met.”
