He folds his arms with his tail swinging from side to side. “Maybe I should have checked in a bit earlier, but stupid subways and transportation on this planet are dumb. Or maybe I shouldn’t have eaten before checking in.”

I give a wry smile. “It’s Thanksgiving, so everywhere is crowded.”

He gives me a side-eye. “And that’s a human holiday. I don’t mean to blame you when you aren’t the one who invented it, but... You are a human.”

I let out a soft chuckle. “Can’t blame you. I’m not a big fan of Thanksgiving, either.”

“Really? I thought all humans loved the holiday.”

When I have to be home and get asked about why I’m not dating anyone? All the holidays have been no fun for me for years already.

I shake my head. “Not all humans, but I suppose quite a number.”

He muses, “Anyway, it looks like you’re in a hurry. I shouldn’t keep you here.”

Except I’m not exactly in a hurry. I want to get out of this hotel and look less like a failure, but otherwise, I’m not in a hurry at all. Where am I heading anyway? I don’t want to be home when everyone is there.

Wait...

I swallow. I have a crazy idea. “Hey, you said you’re out of a room for the night and may end up sleeping under a bridge.”

He scoffs. “I don’t like the implication of what you said, but I suppose you aren’t completely off.”

I take a deep breath. He’s going to laugh at me for how crazy my idea is. My cheeks burn before I even utter the words. I grit my teeth. “Okay, I have an offer for you. How about you come home with me? You can have a place to stay for the night.”

He lifts an eyebrow at me, leaning closer with a frown. He’s a big alien and when he looks at me like that... I resist the urge to take a step back. Maybe this is crazy, but he looks like a gentle alien, and a nice one who won’t punch me or hurt me.

Someone who can afford to stay in this hotel is either on his company’s budget or stupidly rich. So maybe it isn’t that dangerous to invite him over.

He says, “Why? I don’t know you, so what’s the motivation behind the invite?”

And he’s smart too. “As you know, itisThanksgiving.”

He watches me while my heart races so hard that I can have a heart attack in no time.

I continue. “My family is at home, all of them, waiting for my arrival. They want me to be dating someone, so... It’s okay if you don’t want to come with me.”

He narrows his eyes on me. “So, you want me to pose as your boyfriend?”

“Um... Yeah... I can understand if you don’t want to, though.”

He gives me a long and hard look with his tail slowly moving behind him as he ponders. He must think I’m crazy...

He says, “Okay, I’ll take you up on that. Let’s go.”

Oh... Maybe he’s also crazy...

Chapter 3

Yuhan

Istandinfrontof the door of an apartment on the outskirts of the busy city. This isn’t a luxurious place. Not that I’m looking for or need one to survive a night. This is a modest place, probably where the average income humans live.

My company loves to be pretentious, so they love luxurious places. This is a nice change of scenery.

Through the door, there are beings chatting and there is the smell of food. Though I’ve eaten, it makes me hungry. I’m not very familiar with human food, so I have no idea what the smells are.

I sniff in the air. It feels like I’m catching a glimpse of a roasted bird inside. Given that these are humans celebrating Thanksgiving, I’m not surprised.
