The tiny human to my side clears her throat softly. I turn to her, lifting my brows. I’m ready to go inside the apartment with her. Or... Is she expecting me to press the doorbell?

I move my hand to the button, but she catches my wrist. I suck in a breath when a spark runs down my spine. I lower my voice in case someone inside will hear us. “What are you trying to say? Aren’t we going inside?”

She looks around. I follow her gaze. There are noises of other beings talking. Everyone here is crazy about the holiday. Otherwise, there’s no one in the corridor.

She says, “Um... What’s your name?”

Right... I’m supposed to be dating her, so she should know my name. “Yuhan.”

She takes in a breath. “Yuhan. Okay, I can remember that. I’m Silvia.”

That’s a cute name. Her hand on me is shaking. I hope I’m not the reason she’s nervous.

She holds my hand with her small and soft one. “I think we have to convince them more.”

So, we can’t walk into the apartment as two separate individuals. Given how she’ll let me stay here for the night, I should comply.

I give her hand a gentle squeeze. Warmth explodes in me when her warmth settles into my skin. This makes no sense.

It’s been that way since I first saw her in the restaurant. She was the waitress who spilled the food and broke the plate. I suppose she was new at the job.

But the moment I saw her, I knew there was something special about her. She made my tail warm and my heart race. I wondered why I felt that with her, so when she asked me to come with her, I had to agree to figure out what was so special about her.

She swipes her key card and the door slides open. I take a breath, hoping my suit won’t out me as someone who doesn’t fit in.

I swallow when the door is completely opened and the chatting noise in the apartment abruptly stops.

All the ten beings inside are human. There’s no way I can fit into them. Maybe if I didn’t have a tail, I’d fit in a bit better.

“Silvia! You’re back!” One of the middle-aged females grins and comes to us. Though she is smiling, there is a faint frown on her face. She gives Silvia a hug. “I thought you had a shift for the evening. So...?”

Silvia looks at me. “Well, I said that just so...”

The woman looks at me, then back at Silvia. “You don’t have to prepare the dinner with us? Or to sneak out to look for...?”

I think she’s referring to me, but I have no idea what I should say in order to keep our cover. This woman is probably Silvia’s mother, or aunt.

Silvia gestures to me. “It took a while, but I think this is the day I can introduce Yuhan to everyone.”

Silvia continues, “Yuhan, this is my mother, and my father, my—“

“Oh, Silvia is back?” An older woman peeks her head from another room. She’s wearing an apron, so that’s probably the kitchen. More importantly...

The older woman comes over and eyes me up and down. I resist the urge to run. I keep a smile on my face. This isn’t the time to screw up and cause problems for Silvia.

“Ah, I know you!”

No, we don’t know each other. But, yes, we’ve met.

“Grandma, you know him?” Silvia tilts her head to the side with a frown on her face.

I say, “We met on the subway. In fact, earlier today.”

The whole family takes in a deep breath, as if they sucked every bit of air out of the room.

Grandma pats my shoulder. She is shorter than me by quite a lot, so she barely reaches. “Oh, you are a fine young male. I’m so thankful to have met you. I would have fallen in the subway if you weren’t there.”

She takes my wrist and nudges me over to the table. “I knew Silvia is going to find a good male. Look at the turkey you rescued.”
