And he knew op-ed pieces wouldn’t be the worst of it.

If word that the man next in line to the throne was sleeping with a Hellhound got out?

Things could get way worse for Remi than a few cruelly worded news stories.

Remi seemed unconcerned though, snorting and rolling his eyes. “They did that when someone got some creepy pap shot of me dancing on a bar last year.”

“You were in your underwear,” James said flatly.

“At an invite-only, private party,” Remi said. “They acted like I destroyed the reputations of all Sirens, like they don’t get fucking dirty when—”

“Enough,” Grace said firmly, though she was obviously trying to hide a smile. “It doesn’t matter. You understand the risk, and I’m giving you permission.”

I’m giving you permission.

To… be together? No, she couldn’t have meant that.

Remi shot Jeremiah a satisfied smile. “When do we leave?”

Clearing his throat, he refocused on the immediate concerns facing them. “Tomorrow. We’ll have some of the palace guards and Storm accompany us as well.”

“There’s a private room on the jet,” Remi said quietly, slipping a hand onto Jeremiah’s forearm, and his face flushed all over again. If he’d wanted to confirm to everyone within hearing distance that they were fucking, that was the way to do it.

Luckily, because Knight covered Priest’s mouth with one of his hands and everyone else in the room had manners, no one called them out on it.

“You are a brat,” Jeremiah hissed, pressing Remi against the wall. He licked over the spot he’d bitten days ago, confused why the impulse had been so godsdamn overwhelming and why he wanted to do it again. Thankfully, Remi had healed almost immediately after he’d laved his tongue over the bite, the wound disappearing.

He’d wanted to ask about it since Remi was always so quick to call himself mostly human, but he’d still been reeling from how it felt to fuck Remi. Though it hadn’t felt like fucking. He wouldn’t be so saccharine as to call it making love, but there had been a moment he swore he could feel his soul reach out and touch Remi’s.

Even now, he was getting hard just thinking about it, and having Remi looking at him with a small smirk on his lush lips was pushing him near the edge. They hadn’t had much time alone together since the pool, barely more than a few stolen kisses, and Jeremiah couldn’t help but look forward to being in Hillsland with only a small detail with them instead of an entire palace.

“You like me that way,” Remi said.

Jeremiah leaned in and laid a biting kiss to his lips. “Yes. Gods give me strength, but I do.”

Remi smiled against his mouth, and Jeremiah felt dangerously happy in spite of knowing they had no real hope for a future. Whatever the feeling was in his chest, he prayed it would fade when he and Remi were forced to separate. But he’d been denied so much his entire life, godsdamn him to the pits of hell, but he wanted to be selfish for this little bit.

“What’s wrong?” Remi asked.

Jeremiah shook his head. “What makes you think there’s something wrong?”

“I don’t know,” Remi said, then lifted his hand between them and pressed his palm to Jeremiah’s racing heart. “Just a feeling.”

He sighed, then knocked their foreheads together. “I need to do rounds and speak to my team. Then I want to check in with your parents about Priest staying here.”

Remi pulled back. “Is his name seriously Priest? A Demon?”

Jeremiah laughed softly and shrugged. “No. That’s not his actual name. But he never uses it, and neither do the others. They’ve all pretty much adopted their code names.”

“But you protest going by Sunshine?” Remi asked with a laugh.

Jeremiah nipped his jaw. “That’s different. That was a joke that stuck and became my code name.”

“I think it’s cute,” Remi argued, and he dragged his hands down Jeremiah’s back, cupping his ass. “You light up like the sun when I do this.”

Jeremiah let out a deep growl from the pit of his stomach, watching as it made Remi erupt into a blush. He fought the urge to give in to his hound and lick the heat from his cheeks. Gods, Remi made him feel so connected to his animal side. It had taken a lot of his control not to shift when he saw Remi’s tail. And when he slipped inside him…
