“Nevertheless—”

Sebastian sat in a leather chair opposite his brother’s desk. “Brother, I’ve come to discuss the rogue omega who has been terrorizing our family.”

Bertram winced. “I don’t suppose you’re referring to Everard’s mate.”

Sebastian glared at his brother.

Bertram sighed. “I suppose you aren’t, then. Ask your questions.”

“Hugh,” Sebastian began, “has recently related a very fantastical story to me. It appears a certain omega infiltrated his staff, abducted his secretary, and drugged him.”

“That’s not a question.”

Sebastian ignored Bertram’s interjection. “Then, too, we have the abduction of Reynard’s clutch. It was six years ago, yes, but it was also by an omega. One you called Raven during the melee, who you prevented me from killing.” Sebastian cracked his knuckles pointedly.

Bertram smiled blandly. “Still not a question.”

“Five centuries ago, there was an omega who abducted Peregrine. I was prevented from killing that omega as well. By you. And your actions. My mate still bears the scars.”

Again, Bertram winced. He also seemed to look, for him, uncharacteristically uneasy.

“The name of that omega was Raven, if I remember correctly. You confided to me that you’d take care of him.”

Bertram’s face went stony and he said nothing.

“Knowing all that, brother, why is there a sticker of a raven on your laptop?”

Bertram’s eyes opened wide with surprise. “What the…” He pulled the laptop closed and saw the bird Sebastian referred to. “Fuck.”

“That does seem to be the issue, doesn’t it, brother?”

Bertram glowered at him. “What do you want to keep this information from our sire? Or have you already told him?”

“I have not tattled.”

“Then why are you here?”

“This Raven. Have you captured him? Is he in your custody?”

Bertram paused, grimaced, and shook his head.

“Then I expect your help in protecting my mate. He is expecting and I won’t have him harmed in any way by rogue omegas. Is that understood?”

Bertram wrinkled his brow. “Isn’t it too soon for another clutch?”

“He is expecting a dragonet.”

Bertram’s face went dead pale and his features froze. “But—”

“Silence.” Sebastian planted his palms on Bertram’s desk and leaned forward until they were nose to nose. “Nothing,” he uttered, “will endanger my child’s safety or well-being. Absolutely nothing. That includes your wayward Raven. I will kill him if he gets near my mate. I vow it. Even if he does smell like family.” Sebastian drew back and fixed his jacket. “I’m sure you understand.”

Bertram said nothing, but he didn’t need to. The wounded look in his eyes told Sebastian the message had been received.

So Sebastian left his brother’s lair, passing a wandering Drummond on the way. He’d done well, he thought, and would sleep well tonight knowing that his most dangerous brother would now do anything to keep Perry safe.
