Which was precisely what Peregrine did. He rode relentlessly, tirelessly, as though their bond afforded him stamina he’d never had before. While he worked, Sebastian ran his hands up Peregrine’s thighs and hips, greedy for more, but not willing to take until Peregrine had gotten everything from him that he needed. When his mate finally did begin to flag, Sebastian rolled them so that he covered Peregrine’s lithe body.

“Is it heat?” Sebastian asked in a rumble as he nosed beneath Peregrine’s jaw, scenting his skin. It was faintly sweet. “Tell me it is. Tell me I can knot you and we can try again.”

“I think it is.” Peregrine drew in a shaky breath and threw his head back upon the pillows. His brow was glossed with sweat, and his curls were damp and limp. “It seems impossible—far too soon—yet… yet I burn, Sebastian. I burn for you. I need your knot. Your seed.”

A thrill ran through Sebastian and into their mate bond, where he felt it thrill Peregrine as well. He would put a new child in Peregrine—a baby or a clutch, it mattered not—and they would have the family they wanted. Their broken hearts would never heal, but eventually, they would mend.

“Are you sure?” he asked Peregrine one last time. “If I do this, there is no going back.”

“I’ve never been more sure in my life.”

“Then I will make you mine, and you shall give us a child.”

Peregrine moaned, and so Sebastian began to rut in earnest. The bed shook beneath them, threatening to collapse, but thankfully it held. Peregrine, as exhausted as he was, proved insatiable, and he rolled his head from side to side while his hips met each of Sebastian’s frantic thrusts. “More. I need more. Lord, I need…”

Then Peregrine did something, and Sebastian’s whole body went stiff with pleasure. It was like Peregrine was stroking their bond as though it were Sebastian’s cock.

Pleasure echoed through him, his and Peregrine’s both, intertwined and indivisible, so incredible there was nothing Sebastian could do to hold on. With a roar, he came, flooding his mate with his seed and knotting them together. Peregrine cried out and clung tightly to him, and through the bond, Sebastian felt him come as well.

It was pleasure unparalleled.

A delight like no other.

If this was to be the rest of their lives, Sebastian might not leave their bedroom again.

Sebastian rocked his knot inside Peregrine, binding them closer together, until his omega cried out again and came to a second climax. Sebastian held him close, like the treasure he was, until his knot finally slipped free. “Are you sated now, my love?” he asked, already knowing the answer.

Peregrine’s eyes snapped open, and all the hunger Sebastian felt through their bond burned in them. “No. I need more.”

Sebastian obliged him. He obliged them both, as he, too, became caught up in his mate’s heat. They mated, then slept entwined, then mated again, over and over, until the crazed need abated. Peregrine, exhausted, fell to sleep soundly beside him.

The heat had passed, and in its wake, it was as if it had never happened. Sebastian had no true idea of how much time had passed, but it had surely been less than a week. Which meant…

Well, time would tell.

Sebastian

Present Day

With the Attendants there to unload the van and unpack their belongings, Sebastian made his way to his study to await his brother’s arrival. He’d rather be with Perry, but he knew what that would inevitably lead to and his mate needed rest, not Sebastian’s cock inside him. There were a few matters which demanded his attention but Sebastian, for the moment, ignored them. He was in no proper headspace to deal with his finances or the squabbles that had occurred among the staff while he’d been gone. All of that would be dealt with, but later, after he and Perry were assured their babe was healthy and safe.

Sebastian dropped into his chair and let his thoughts wander. The babe would be coming soon, and he wasn’t exactly sure what he’d do with a daughter. He’d had precious little experience with women. He’d had sex with a few in his youth—enough to know that it wasn’t his cup of tea. But raising one seemed such a foreign concept that he wasn’t sure where to begin.

Boys were easy.

Sebastian had been one once, many years ago, and while he’d started off life as a dragon and not a small, defenseless human, he figured it couldn’t be all that different. But a girl? It hardly seemed the same. She would value different things and experience the world in different ways. Teaching her to stand up for herself would require a skill set Sebastian had yet to refine.

But he would do it.

He would do it for her.

And no matter who she grew up to be, he would encourage her every step of the way.

A scream splintered Sebastian’s musings and he bolted upright. It had come from Perry. A heartbeat later, fear arrowed through their mate bond, sending Sebastian sprinting out of the room in a panic.

He had no clue what had happened, but he feared the worst.
