“This pizza is delicious.” I shove another bite in my mouth, my gaze moving to the TV. “Billy Loomis is so freaking hot.” Chewing rapidly, I swallow and take a sip of my drink. “Could you imagine him shirtless while wearing that Ghostface mask? How hot would that be?”

Sophia fans herself. “I’ve thought that about Stu as well.” She grabs another slice of pizza from the box, sliding it onto her plate. “I never knew I had a mask kink until I watched this movie.”

“Oh, that’s what it’s called? I thought I was abnormal for getting excited over mask-wearing men.” I shrug, picking up my pizza. “Course, in my fantasies, the men beneath the mask had an eight-pack and were hotter than hell.”

She laughs. “Of course. Who wants some disgusting, vile dude? Eight pack… and eight inches.”

I snort. “Oh, my gosh. Sophia.”

As we turn our attention to the movie, I can’t help but envision Evan wearing the Ghostface mask and chasing me through the woods Sophia and I ran through earlier.I’ll bet he has eight inches.

My phone beeps, startling me awake. Sophia lifts her head, eyes groggy as she blinks rapidly. “What time is it?”

Rubbing my hand over my blurry eyes, I squint, focusing on the time on my screen. “Sheesh. It’s 2:00 a.m.” A yawn splits my face. “I better go.” Sitting up, I read the text message from Evan.

“It’s up to you. I have an extra bedroom if you wanna stay here.”

“Thanks for the offer. But I better go.”

My fingers move across my phone, responding.

Me: Sorry. I fell asleep on Sophia’s couch. Be home in a couple of minutes.

“Thanks for having me over tonight. I enjoyed our talk.”

Sophia grins. “You’re welcome. And me too.” Standing, she walks me to the door, trying to hide the yawn that escapes but failing. “You’re always welcome here, Lexi.”

I squeeze her hand. “I’m so grateful I met you.”

“Ditto, Lexi.”

“Goodnight.” I open the door and step outside, hearing Sophia echo it back before it closes. I spin around, gasping as Evan’s chest bumps against mine. “Jesus. You gave me a heart attack.”

“Sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you. I didn’t want you to walk home alone.” His alert gaze moves around. “Don’t want any asshole getting the wrong idea.” There’s a possessive edge to his voice that makes me shiver. “It’s a dangerous world, Lexi. I need to ensure you’re safe.”

Despite the warm night air and the heat from his body, my body quakes. The low, gravelly tone, full of possession, speaks to something primal inside me.

“Cold?” Before I can answer, he unzips the hoodie he’s wearing, exposing a sliver of abs that makes me want to drop to my knees and run my hands over them. When he takes it off, I drool over his chest and abs. He smirks as he puts the hoodie on me like a gentleman. “Better?”

I inhale his rich, amber scent. “Much.”

His smile takes my breath away. “Come on, baby. Let’s go home.”

Oh, Jesus. I wanna drop to my knees and do any damn thing he wants me to do.

What the hell is wrong with me?

DEFIANCE

Evan

Whistling as I walk across the campus, I smile broadly as I recall the conversation Lexi and Sophia had two nights ago. The device worked so well, it was as though Trent and I were in the room with them. I installed in her necklace while Lexi was in the shower. Trent watched me install it with an amused face, but I’ll bet sooner than later, he’s going to want one to track Sophia.

The man is in deep denial about his feelings for her, but I know not to push him. He’s stubborn, and he’ll only resist if I do.

Of course, I let him listen to Sophia’s part of the conversation when she told Lexi how they met and her most recent indiscretion.
