My grin is sardonic. “Thebesthands.” I wink at Lexi, a wolfish grin on my face.

“It’s settled then.” My dad lifts his glass of champagne. “Let’s toast to beautiful new beginnings. Two families are now one. And Evan and Lexi have bright futures ahead of them.”

A frown mars Lexi’s beautiful face, her brows furrowed. I can practically taste the fear radiating from her tanned skin as her shaky hand lifts her glass, tapping mine, before doing the same with her mother's and my father’s glass of champagne.

My little prey has just fallen into the predator’s trap, and she can’t do a fucking thing about it.

That’s right, Alexis Renee. You’re mine.

I’ll use you for my pleasure. And once you spill whatever plan you and your mother concocted, I’ll expose you to my father, and he’ll kick the two of you out without a penny to your name.

DANGER, DANGER

Alexis

Exiting the Porsche that Preston bought me, my wide-eyed stare locks on the posh apartment building in front of me. Dionysus, my new home for the next fifteen weeks of the semester.

It’s a dream I never thought possible.

The front door opens, and Evan saunters out, a smirk curling up his lips, shirtless and in a pair of—oh, God—gray sweatpants. Although I tell myself not to look, my gaze instantly drops to the outline of his huge dick.Is he wearing underwear?

I’m drooling over him, my body temperature shooting up five degrees. Sweating beneath the oppressive Texas heat, I wipe my brow, tearing my gaze from the large package in Evan’s pants to his bemused gray eyes.

Fuck. The arrogant motherfucker noticed me staring. He notices everything about me.

I tell myself repeatedly that I hate it, but that’s a lie. A large part of me practically basks in it after being ignored for so long by my mom. I’m starved for attention, and that’s why I need to antagonize Evan at every turn when we are together.

I’m a freaking mess.

“Hey, baby sis.” Evan stops so damn close to me that I’m drowning in the scent of his warm amber cologne. The smugness he exudes makes me want to smack him and kiss him.

Clenching my jaw, my eyes flash as I snap at him. “Stop calling me that,” My palms land against his hard chest, attempting to push him away.

Oh, hell, why does his muscular chest feel so damn good beneath my hands? Imagine what the rest of him would feel like.

Evan ignores me as though I didn’t speak. Golden streaks are in his thick brown hair as he lowers his head, staring at me like a hunter watching his prey. There’s a hunger burning in his smoky eyes as he plants his palms on my Porsche behind me, caging me in. His muscular body is so close that the aroma of his body wash mixes with his warm amber scent as he hovers over me. The fresh scent of him mixes with the sexuality oozing from his pores is so damn heady I’m lightheaded.

Cocking a brow, a smirk curls his lip. “See anything you like?”

“You wish,” I snap, my voice shaking on the last word. I clench my jaw, fire flaming in my eyes when I see the victorious glint in his. My heart races, banging against my chest, loud inside my ears.God, I hope like hell, he can’t hear it.

I’ve never had this type of reaction to anyone before. Adrenaline rushes through me as though I’m about to jump off a damn cliff. His aura is powerful and all-consuming, like a lion about to attack a zebra. Danger swirls around me, but rather than fear him, I wonder what it would feel like to have his full lips on mine, his powerful arms wrapped around me.

“Oh, there’s no wishing.” Evan cocks his head, smoldering gray eyes boring into mine. “I think…” Leaning closer, his lips are a breath away from mine, so close the minty flavor of the mouthwash wafts over me. “You like me shirtless and wearing gray sweatpants, baby sis.”

Gritting my teeth, I curl my hands, nails digging into his chest. “I think you’re a deranged egotistical asshole who thinks the world revolves around him.” My eyes flash. “Now step back.”

“Oh, Lexi. You don’t want that.” He inhales deeply, his eyes briefly closing. His long black lashes would make any woman jealous.

It should be a crime to have a physique sculpted by a Greek God and that kind of attractiveness on top of it. But the words that come from his arrogant lips ruin the package.

His eyes blaze with heat when he opens them, turning me into an inferno. The smug bastard knows it. “Not with the way you’re looking at me.” His head dips lower, and for a moment, I’m fearful and anxious he’ll kiss me.

But he doesn’t.

His face is mere inches from mine, and it’s obvious from the way his pupils dilate that I’m affecting him as much as he affects me.

My brain screams out a warning.Danger. Danger. But I ignore it and open my mouth, making it quite clear I’m not thinking. “How am I looking at you?”
