“Think she’s safe?” Trent leans closer so no one else hears, his gaze raking over the crowd.

“With Ryker, Luca, Zayne, and Jaxson wandering around, plus both of us, she’ll be fine.”

THE PLAN

Alexis

I’m swaying to the music, watching Evan and Trent head toward the festively decorated stands offering food and beverages. Sophia is a short distance away, talking to a friend she hasn’t seen since her mom remarried.

The corn maze catches my eye. I glance over at Sophia, then head toward the entrance. I stop at the sign, entranced by the hay bales carved to resemble the Ghostface mask.

Looking over my shoulder, I see that Evan and Trent still haven’t returned. Turning around, I take a step inside the maze. This looks like so much fun. I can’t wait to come in here with Evan, Sophia, and Trent later.

I turn around to exit when a hand clamps over my mouth, muffling my scream. His familiar cologne assaults my senses, causing terror to course through me as he drags me deeper inside the maze.

“Hello again, Lexi,” Shane’s vile voice whispers in my ear. “I have a special surprise planned for you tonight.”

Oh, fuck. No.

I struggle and drag my feet, flailing against him. I squirm, using my elbows, hands, and feet to fight against him, but Shane anticipates everything I do, and doesn’t relinquish his hold on me for a second.

“Your boyfriend was so pissed about what happened in the bathroom. Huntley thought I was foolish, doing something so brazen. But I went with my gut.” Shane’s vile laughter rings in my ear as he drags me deeper into the corn maze, away from civilization. I can barely hear any of the sounds from the pumpkin patch as the tall corn stalks cast eerie shadows over the field. “Tonight took a bit more planning. I can’t afford to be so reckless.”

My eyes widen as I see the cameras propped on the hay bales, lanterns strategically placed to illuminate the blankets on the ground.

Huntley steps out from the shadows, a sinister grin on his face. “Ready to be a star again, Lexi?”

I’m shoved to the ground, the smell of the earth mixing with the scent of sweet corn and hay. I look up, watching as Huntley and Shane begin undoing their jeans. My breathing is heavy as the sweat rolls down my skin, making it itch from the hay and corn stalks surrounding me.

“No, please. Don’t do this.”

“Oh, but we are.” Shane leers at me, his hand going inside his jeans. “You’re about—”

That’s all he gets out before he crashes to the ground. I crawl away, my eyes meeting Evan’s furious ones. I hear Huntley scream from behind me as Trent flies through the air, attacking him.

Evan loses his shit, beating the hell out of Shane, who screams, cries, and moans. The sickening thud of his fists pounding against him with so much force the snapping of bones fills the air. Blood sprays onto my skin and clothing before Sophia runs out, grabbing my arms and pulling me to my feet. A dark-haired girl is beside her, wrapping her arm around me, pulling me away from the fighting.

“Hi, I’m Devyn,” the brunette says. “This is a helluva way to meet. Sorry it’s under these circumstances.”

In a daze, my gaze darts to Evan, who is going insane, animalistic screams filling the air around us as he continues his violent assault on Shane.

“I’m Lexi. Though you probably know that.”

She laughs. “Yes, I’ve heard a lot about you from Evan. He’s so in love with you.”

Despite the circumstances, Devyn’s words endear her to me. “I love him, too.” Biting my lip, I cast a worried glance behind me before looking at Sophia and Devyn. “But shouldn’t we—”

My words cut off at the sight of the four men stopping behind them.

“Don’t be afraid. This one is Ryker, my fiancé.” Devyn points to him. “Beside him is Luca, then Zayne, and Jaxson. They’re good friends with Evan and Trent.”

“We’re the clean-up crew,” the dark-haired guy named Zayne steps forward with a wide grin. “Don’t worry, Lexi. We won’t let anything happen to you.”

“I’m not worried about me.” I cast a look over my shoulder. While Evan grabs Huntley, Shane is lying on the ground, Trent standing over him. “Shouldn’t we do something?”

“Don’t worry. Evan isn’t going to kill them tonight. Too many people around,” the guy named Ryker says, stepping forward and throwing an arm around Devyn. “Hey, Lexi. You okay?”
