I nod. “Wait. Did Evan plan this?”
The guys exchange a glance, telling me everything I need to know.
“But how… Why?”
Jaxson steps forward, his voice calm and reassuring. “Evan has been tracking Huntley and Shane for a while. After what happened to you in the restroom, he knew they would strike as soon as he gave them the opportunity.”
The realization hits me. “That’s why he and Trent left us to get us food and drinks.”
Zayne grins. “I’m surprised you weren’t more suspicious of him leaving you alone. I was worried that it wouldn’t work.” He shrugs. “Clearly, he knows you better than I do.”
I can’t help but grin. “He knows me almost as well as I know myself.”
My skin tingles, and I whip around. Evan comes up behind me, shirtless, blood sprayed all over his body. “Get those creeps out of here.” He jerks his head over his shoulder, and Zayne, Jaxson, and Luca immediately head toward the prone forms of Huntley and Shane lying on the ground.
Evan’s hand grips mine, pulling me closer to him. I turn into his body, hugging him, not caring if I’m getting blood all over me.
“Thanks for everything, Ryker. I appreciate all you’ve done.” My head lifts, watching Evan high five Ryker. “And of course, those three deserve thanks.” He nods toward Zayne, Jaxson, and Luca.
Ryker nods. “Anytime, Evan. You and Trent are family.”
Sophia touches my arm. “You okay, Lexi?”
I eye her with suspicion. “Were you in on this plan?”
She shakes her head. “Not until Devyn and Trent grabbed me, pulling me toward the maze before they clued me in on what was happening.” Sophia grins at Evan, then at me. “Evan was already sprinting through the cornfield, hot on your heels.”
He tightens his grip on me. “I promised I wouldn’t let them hurt you again. I meant it.” His shrewd eyes rake over me. “You okay?”
I nod, aware that Devyn, Ryker, Sophia, and Trent keep walking.
I gaze into Evan’s smoky eyes, falling even deeper than I already am. “I love you, Evan.”
He cups my face, not caring that he’s half-naked and bloody. “I love you, bellissima.”

Evan
Exiting the corn maze, I inhale deeply, the fall scents floating on the October breeze sinking deep into my lungs, filling me with the knowledge that this will all be over soon.
“I’m really glad Devyn was here. Those wipes really came in handy, as did the change of clothing she brought.”
“Ryker and Devyn were instrumental to my plan tonight. They hacked Huntley and Shane’s computer, alerting me they knew we were coming here tonight and planning an attack.” I pull her closer. “Also, the assault in the bathroom that Sophia and I convinced you to report. Huntley and Shane were stupid enough to put the details in their text messages. Both have iPhones and MacBooks, so the texts were stored on the Macs when Devyn and Ryker hacked into them. That information has already been sent to the Groveton administration and police.”
Lexi snorts. “What dumbasses.” Casting a worried look over her shoulder, she turns to me, mocha eyes full of concern. “But what about what happened back there? Won’t they claim you and Trent assaulted them?”
“Not after Zayne and Jaxson are done with them.”
She grins. “I like your friends.” I watch as she sniffs the air, the heavy aroma of French fries and funnel cakes permeating it. Her stomach growls and she puts a hand on it, giggling. “I’m starving.”
My hand goes beneath her chin. “Let’s go eat.”
Tightening my grip on her hand, I turn, sucking in a breath as I lay eyes on someone I never expected to see.
My brow wrinkles as I stare at him in disbelief. “Father?”
