“Oh my God. This is the best news.” Lexi flings herself into my arms, holding up the Groveton College student newspaper. “Did you see the article?”
I grin, taking it from her, knowing what it will say without reading it.
My friends helped me bury Shane and Huntley, making them pay for their crimes.
After hacking into Shane and Huntley’s laptops, Zayne, Jaxson, Ryker, and Luca put various child pornography on it that went back a couple of years. They also put the video of Jenna giving a blow job to Dr. Thomas, the sixty-year-old faculty member, on it because Huntley and Shane were using it to blackmail her into letting them fuck her. They were planning to release the video and the one they hoped to make of them doing the same to Lexi this week.
But that changed when Huntley and Shane were both arrested.
One of the students Huntley had been sexually harassing filed a complaint, and an investigation was conducted. When they went through Huntley’s computer, they found video evidence that supported her claim, as well as other students being sexually harassed by Huntley.
They also found the emails of Huntley bragging to Shane about sexually harassing his students. Shane got involved in Huntley’s escapades, and the video evidence was used against him.
Investigators also found emails between Shane and Huntley that detailed everything Shane did to Lexi in high school.
Since Huntley hated me because of my father’s affair with his mother, and he knew Lexi was my biggest weakness, that’s why he went after her that night in the corn maze.
But I was two steps ahead of them.
Not only was Huntley fired, but he was arrested and escorted off campus in the middle of his class. Because of Shane’s involvement, he was expelled and arrested as well.
A wide smile is on my face as I read the article. “Excellent reporting.”
Lexi bounces up and down before she leans against my desk. “Isn’t that the best news? It’s the perfect closure.”
I toss the article on my desk, grabbing her and setting her on my lap. “Nuh-uh. I have better news.”
Lexi cocks her head, her brows drawing together. “What?
“Dr. Boyles finished writing his paper and submitted it, which means he will resume teaching the psychology class in place of me. I’ll still be there, as his TA, of course.”
She stares at me, frozen. I can see the thoughts racing behind her eyes, trying to comprehend this.
“Seems Dr. Boyles was a TA when he met his wife. Like me, he began teaching the class. But rumors that the two of them were involved started getting out, so the professor resumed grading all assignments and tests.” I shift in my chair, pulling her onto my lap. “Dr. Broyles talked with me earlier and he will take over grading for the remainder of the semester.” My smile is wide. “There are no rules prohibiting TAs and students from dating.”
Lexi’s eyes widen, her breath quickening. “Does this mean… We don’t have to hide?”
“That’s exactly what it means. This entire campus will know I’m yours and you’re mine.” I grab her left hand, lifting it to my lips. “I plan to have a ring on this finger before Thanksgiving.”
She squeals, throwing her arms around me. “Oh, my gosh. It’s so amazing we won’t have to hide anymore.”
I chuckle. “Don’t you care that I’m going to propose to you?”
She laughs. “That’s a given after what you said in the corn maze.” She squirms in my lap. “I’m so freaking happy.”
“I can tell.” My smile matches hers. “I have one other thing I’d like to discuss.”
Lexi pulls back, studying my face. “Okay?”
“Ryker, Zayne, and Jaxson have a ton of land. I want to buy some and build a house for us. I figured I’d wait until I graduated before we’d start building. You can finish school here, and yes, Sophia is invited whenever you like. I can even have an apartment built over the garage for her to stay in. Or a separate cabin on the grounds since I plan to buy so much of it.”
“Really?” Her voice is a high-pitched squeak. “I think I love the idea already.”
“We wouldn’t be that far from campus. I’ll drive you to class. Boyles is helping me with my CV so I can get hired here to teach after I graduate in the spring. There are two faculty members in the department retiring at the end of this academic year.”
“It sounds perfect, Evan. I love it.”
My arms tighten around her. “I love you. Every single piece of you, forever.”
Tears glisten in her eyes, spilling down her cheeks. “Ditto, babe.” Then she seals her promise with a kiss that leaves me breathless.
God, I can’t wait to marry this woman.
